... and I can 'fess up to what I wrote. It felt like I didn't get much in this year, but actually it was a lot!

First, my assignment:

Tiny mammoths ... IN SPACE. (It occurs to me that the description makes it sound like what they got was a sex toy. It definitely is not.)

I also picked up a pinch hit:

The Wolf Inside (Ben January Mysteries, 3400 wds, Olympe & Shaw)
There were those who believed Olympe could summon wolves at her command, and snakes and roaches as well. She only laughed at this. It would be very convenient if she had been given a wolf-servant to do her bidding, instead of being afflicted with an unpredictable wolf-policeman with his own allegiances, bent about his own business and prying into hers for reasons of his own.

I've written for this recipient before (sadlikeknives), and they always request werewolf!Shaw but I've never written it, so this seemed like a good year to do that.

And then I wrote some treats:

Kitty Cornered (Falcon & Winter Solder, 1300 wds, Sam & Bucky & Zemo)
One (1) felon is now one (1) kitten.

Look, Zemo would make a good cat, I'm just saying.

Chocolate Box is revealed! I got two absolutely lovely gifts, both with excellent character voices and highly RTMI:

A perfect little slice of post-canon road trip shenanigans and bonding.

Despite thinking I hadn't actually written much, between picking up pinch hits and having sudden treat ideas fall on me, I ended up writing SIX things in the collection, all in different fandoms! I'm genuinely surprised which one has the most comments so far; it's not what I would have expected AT ALL. Though maybe it's just a matter of people's browsing patterns and general fic-accessibility vs. a need for in-depth canon knowledge.

I thought I wasn't going to manage anything but my assignment this time, but I ended up writing two last-minute treats right before deadline, so I'm happy about that! No big surprises on fandoms/ships/characters this year; I was very what you see is what you get. XD

First off, my assignment:

I think it possibly kinda shows that I was reading the Magicians books while I was writing this, because it's very Narnia-esque urban fantasy with portals and quests and magic objects. When I got this assignment, I mentioned to rachelmanija that this fandom cries out for long plotty femslash and I was by golly gonna write some.

Very shocking. Not my brand at all.

Jeri's Angels (Defenders, Jessica + Claire + Madani, 1600 wds)
"Oh, come on, again?" were the first words out of Claire's mouth when Jessica limped into her apartment at three in the morning, half-carrying and half-dragging a singed and bleeding Madani.

This recipient just had the BEST request about the Defenders-verse ladies all working together. They were good with either AUs or canon 'verse, so I went with a canonesque idea about all of them (or most of them) ending up being drawn into each other's orbit in the post-canon era while working, under various pretexts, as investigators for Jeri Hogarth.

Thank you so much for making something for me! I'm sure I'll love whatever you create. I've requested fanfiction for my assignment, but I would be very happy to receive art as a treat.

I participated in two different fic exchanges this Valentine's Day, and I feel like I totally won the exchange lottery this year. :D Sometimes you get something and have to scrape up enthusiasm for it. This time, I absolutely loved every single gift I got, and they were all really different from each other while still being things I really wanted.

First up, Agent Carter Valentines doesn't have an anon period, and there are 24 different fics and artworks with a variety of pairings (and gen!).

My gift was:

It's a beautifully written little Valentine's slice-of-life with the SSR OT3 that I simply adored.

And Chocolate Box released early this morning and is still anon. I got treats!! And I really loved everything.

One of my perennial requests in Dark Matter is for sex pollen fic, and someone filled it (!!) ... PERFECTLY. You know how sometimes there's something you want from a trope, and it's almost never actually written that way, and then you stumble across a fic that does it exactly how you want it? THIS IS THAT FIC. It is the (non)platonic ideal of what I want from a sex pollen fic in general, and from these characters specifically. Also including possibly the best description of the actual sex that I've ever read in a sex pollen fic: ( Cut because running across this line in context is even better ) Which probably makes the story sound much crackier than it actually is. It really isn't cracky at all. It's just that this is SO FAR from the weirdest thing that's ever happened to them ...

And then I got two Stranger Things fics featuring my two (different) favorite character relationships from the series, both sweet and well written and 100% in character.

In which Dustin has a problem that only Steve can help with. In the middle of the night. Not involving monsters from another dimension, this time. Sweet, bantery, and perfect.

And then I got 1900 words of monster hunting and cuddling and Steve h/c!! RIGHT AFTER I had been commiserating with someone else (on Tumblr) that there's not enough monster-of-the-week fic in STh fandom. AND SOMEONE WROTE ME ONE!

Seriously, there are times when you get one great gift and that's wonderful, but any single one of these would've been a perfect gift and they're ALL great and ALL different and I truly couldn't pick which one is my favorite!

So yeah. It's a good Valentine's Day.

As for the REST of my Chocolate Box fics, I'll get them properly reposted here over the next day or two. It was the previous one that I've been dying to repost here, though, because I wrote 16K of fic that I COULDN'T TALK ABOUT. It was killing me. And is also the reason why I was somewhat scarce last week, because I wrote most of it from Thursday to Saturday, i.e. right before the archive opened. I really wasn't expecting it to be anywhere near as long as it turned out. If the pairing is a turnoff, which I realize it may be for a lot of people, it definitely IS a ship fic (not gonna lie) but it's also a slow-burn getting together fic with a lot of gen and gennish plot along the way. If you like my gen fics in the fandom and aren't vehemently opposed to the pairing, you might like it?

Given the short length of the Chocolate Box fic minimum, snippets or scenes from what would normally be a longer story are quite welcome -- like, if you want to write me 300 words of AU scene-setting, that's totally fine!
