So, I have another completely unfounded, maybe totally wrong prediction for A:tLA - The Search. Spoilers for the first two parts under the cut - no actual future spoilers, though.

Guess who has part 2 of ATLA: THE SEARCH?
Jul. 12th, 2013 10:41 pmTHAT WOULD BE ME! \o/ And I'd love to talk about it!
I continue to be sad that Nickelodeon didn't pick this up for a miniseries or movie. I would SO love to see it animated.

ATLA rewatch at frith-in-thorns' journal
Apr. 6th, 2013 03:39 pmI had mentioned a possible A:tLA rewatch/discussion earlier, but
frith_in_thorns is going to be hosting that, not me -- with my enthusiastic blessing, by the way. I had all of these ~plans~ (I was going to do huge long screencap-filled squeeposts for each episode!) but it's not something I can do on any kind of schedule, I don't think, and certainly not something I can start this weekend, so since Frith is way more enthusiastic about it right now, I handed the whole thing off to her. I may still do a rewatch/screencapfest eventually ....
... but long story short,
frith_in_thorns is hosting a rewatch, so go to her journal to discuss and squee. :) A discussion post for the first two episodes (1x01 and 1x02) is up: on LJ and on DW.

Avatar rewatch?
Apr. 3rd, 2013 03:06 pmFirst of all,
frith_in_thorns made a gorgeous Legend of Korra vid, We Built This City. It's so fun and bouncy, all the fun-shiny-happy of the first season! (Spoilers for season one of Legend of Korra.)
After reading the A:tLA comics, I'm definitely feeling the love again. :D It's been about 3 years since I watched the series (I can't believe it's been so long!) and I'm thinking that a rewatch/discussion might be fun. What would you think about having weekly rewatch posts? Is anyone interested in doing that with me?
(ETA: It is probably worth mentioning that since I just had this idea, it's definitely the sort of thing where I might wander off to something else two days later and never actually do it. Still, it seems quite appealing to me right now!)

Avatar comic: The Search
Apr. 1st, 2013 03:45 pmI picked up Part 1 of The Search today (the new A:tLA tie-in comic).
... these are canon, right? At least that's my understanding -- that they're being written with input from the original creators, and everything that happens is creator-sanctioned and canonical.
( Spoilers for part one of 'The Search' )

Legend of Korra - spoilers up to 1x10
Jun. 19th, 2012 09:24 amI haven't really been posting about Legend of Korra because I haven't had that much to say about it. I've been discussing it a little at the episode discussion posts on
white_lotus, and otherwise ... it's a gorgeous show, but for the most part, it's left me a bit flat -- I enjoy the episodes, but don't really feel that engaged by the characters.
Then the latest episode happened.
( Spoilers for 1x10 (and potentially previous episodes as well) )

100 Things #1
May. 2nd, 2012 11:27 amThe "100 favorite scenes" option is currently winning the poll by a landslide on both LJ and DW, so that is what you will get. :D
This is going to be a HIGHLY personal and probably quite embarrassingly id-centric assortment of scenes from books, movies, TV, comics, etc -- recently fanned-on stuff, and things from my childhood too. (Though I'm sure recent stuff will dominate because that's what's currently in my head.) There will, needless to say, be spoilers for EVERYTHING, but I will clearly label them on the cut tag in as non-spoilery a way as possible. *g* I will also try to label any potentially triggery or non-worksafe material.
I suppose that I will begin with a scene that proves it isn't going to be ALL h/c, twist endings and near-death experiences (although I suspect most of it will be *g*).
( Scene from Avatar: The Last Airbender - episode 3x14; not terribly spoilery in and of itself, but contains a spoilery reference to season one )
Legend of Korra: episodes 1 & 2
Apr. 5th, 2012 02:41 pmAs noted yesterday, the first two episodes of Legend of Korra are free on iTunes for USians.

Trollshipping
Apr. 4th, 2012 04:53 pmIs it normal after reading Homestuck to find yourself looking at everything else and trying to figure out how the characters fit into troll shipping quadrants? (For example, Peter is clearly Neal's moirail. XDDD)
In other news, White Collar Big Bang is taking author signups. (I may have accidentally tripped and signed up. Oops.)
In other other news, the first two episodes of Legend of Korra are available for free on iTunes! (Hat tip to
grav_ity for the link!) It looks like one file but there are actually two episodes in it.

I think it only works for U.S. folks, though. I'm sorry. :(
A reaction post will occur soonish.

Avatar fanon that kind of puzzles me
Oct. 10th, 2010 08:35 pmHerbs that suppress prisoners' ability to bend their element. This one comes up in a lot of fic, and ... I don't know, the first time I ran across it I just thought, huh, interesting idea, but about the twentieth time, I started wondering if there's some bit of canon to support this that I'm forgetting. Because it strikes me as actively counter to what we saw in the show itself -- there were quite a lot of episodes in which we saw prisoners and prisons, and it was pretty well established how prisoners with *-bending ability are dealt with. Earth- and water-benders are isolated from their element; firebenders are imprisoned in metal cages surrounded by stone walls, so they have nothing to burn (or, in groups, they're guarded by enough firebenders to counter anything they might try to do). For prisoner transport, they bind someone's hands and feet so they can't make the moves required to bend their element.
If they have a chemical way of suppressing bending, shouldn't they have used it at some point rather than using various physical work-arounds?

Avatar Big Bang recs
Oct. 2nd, 2010 05:19 pmBy now I've read most of the stories in the Avatar Big Bang that looked interesting to me, so here are some recs! Well, actually a lot of recs. (Note: All links go to the googledocs pages where the stories were hosted during the Big Bang; if there are alternate links that I know about, I've included those.)
( Summaries contain series spoilers )

The Avatar AMV of doooom is finally ready to be released into the wild! Thank you very much to
gnine for looking it over for me, and giving very helpful feedback & suggestions. (And if you guys haven't heard this song mashup before, it's brilliant - I was blown away the first time I heard it, because the songs fit together like they were meant to be. And it was so much fun to vid!)
Title: Avatar Dance Mix
Song: United State of Pop 2009 - Blame It on the Pop (mashup of the Billoard top 25 pop songs of 2009)
Artist: Mashup by DJ Earworm - full list of songs & artists at www.djearworm.com
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Seasons/Spoilers: Clips from (nearly) every episode for all 3 seasons
*If you haven't seen the series at all, the clips are short and out of order, so I'm not sure how spoiled you'd actually be, depending on how spoilerphobic you are. If you're currently watching it, you'll be spoiled for future events out the wazoo.

But I just found THIS:
avatar_minis is an A:tLA fic exchange, and it's now taking signups. This round is focused on Katara. I am so there!
