How can I quit you, show, when you keep giving me Tesla episodes that are so totally my thing? ♥ I never wanted to be that person who only watches the episodes that her favorite guest star is in. But. TESLA.

Sanctuary 4x05, Resistance (and lots of nattering about Tesla in general) )

So, yeah, in conclusion, TESLA. ♥

I started making this for [personal profile] tielan for fandom_stocking last year, but I got busy with other things and it kinda fizzled. On the other hand, it means that when I finally got around to finishing it, I had more episodes to take clips from, right?

Darn it, Sanctuary ... how am I supposed to quit you when you keep having episodes that are actually good?!

Awakening (now with oodles of screencaps - not exactly dialup-friendly) )

And here I was doing so well at not caring about Sanctuary. Then I went and watched the preview for next week's episode. Spoilers for what's in the preview )

I think I'm done with Sanctuary for a while. I still plan to watch the next Tesla episode when it comes around (because, TESLA!) but ... otherwise? No. For now, at least, I am through.

Sanctuary 3x13 - total squee-harshing ahead! )

Heh, I suppose this has become one of those over-vidded songs, but never yet by ME, and it was just so Helen. One of the things that appeals to me most about Helen's character is that even after 150+ years, she's still so openly excited by the world, so passionate about seeing new things and going new places. Life is an adventure for her, as much today as a century ago, and I wanted to celebrate that with this vid.

I have certainly been getting my money's worth out of Netflix this month. Watched the first season of Slings & Arrows on a friend's recommendation (I loved it; it's completely adorable) and finished marathoning Sanctuary -- yes, I have now seen it all, except for a couple of episodes in season one that I've only seen parts of (Folding Man and Warrior, specifically).

I believe I may have severely underrated Sanctuary's addictiveness. *g* I think I have a small crush on Henry now, to go with my crush on Tesla. And I'm very much looking forward to new episodes in April!

Because most of my flist seems to have hated it (with reason, I think) the final episode I watched was Hero II, which, since I just watched it, I have Thoughts about: Spoilers )

But that's a depressing note to end my Sanctuary viewing on; perhaps I should go back and rewatch some episodes featuring Tesla or Henry to perk myself up. Or "Breach", which is probably my favorite Helen episode to date.

Okay, I actually am enjoying Sanctuary quite a lot, despite all the complaining *g*, and I have even enjoyed some episodes, like "Fragments", that a lot of my flist didn't seem to like. But the most recent one I watched (Next Tuesday) pushed me riiiiight over the edge into active annoyance, because there is only so much I'm willing to tolerate of the characters making stupid decisions because the plot requires them to.

Just a bit of whining about it, don't mind me )

Slowly filling in the gaps of my Sanctuary viewing ... I've now watched nearly all of season one (I did quit halfway through a couple of episodes, but enjoyed the others) and a big chunk of season two, though I haven't gotten around to the back half of it yet, other than the couple of character-arc-centric eps that I'd watched earlier (the Tesla one and the Druitt one). "Fragments" was the last one I watched, because I couldn't end the evening on "Pavor Nocturnus" -- that is NOT a good episode to watch when your mate is out of town and you're all alone in a dark house right before going to bed.

Random nonspoilery thought:

I adore Helen. I really, truly do. It's so rare and refreshing to have a female hero on an action show who is the kind of character that she is: not a femme fatale or an ingenue in skin-tight black leather, but basically a female Indiana Jones. She dresses comfortably and practically for the situation; she's never over-sexualized (even in the one episode that required her to strip for decontam, it was scary and brutal rather than sexy, and mostly we just saw her head). She has the dignity, calm and gravitas that makes her a believable and convincing leader, and she's equally capable of thinking her way out of plot problems with SCIENCE!!, or getting a big honking gun and shooting her way out. And she's not paired sexually with her male co-star, nor do I get the feeling that they ever would be. (But she also has lovers; she's not desexualized, either.) She's even front and center of the promo shots and the fanfic.

A++ job, Show.

A few more slightly spoilery thoughts )

My interest in fanfic/fandom for this show is already starting to flag, though. Probably I think this one is going to be like Doctor Who and some of the other things I'm into, where I enjoy the show and watch some vids and occasionally read a fanfic that seems to be up my alley (or write one), but I'm not obsessively seeking out everything in the fandom.

I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the eps I haven't seen yet, though, and really looking forward to new eps in April, yay!

For my US flistees, Amazon is offering free shipping on pre-orders of Ghost Story. *pre-orders*

So, these are the episodes of Sanctuary I've not yet watched. Which ones should I watch next?

Now that I'm all caught up on Sanctuary (well, for certain values of "all caught up"; there are still a number of season one and two eps I haven't seen yet, and a couple from season three, but I've watched most of season three including the mid-season finale) I have some random thoughts:

Spoilers thru 3x10 )
