It occurred to me only after it was too late that sending out (more or less) the same email to all of my different pen name mailing lists - something I've never actually done before - really should've been spread out over two or three days because quite a number of people are on more than one list. This occurred to me exactly at the point when the screen refreshed after hitting "send" on the last email.

This is my new mailing list signup incentive novella, ~cleverly designed~ to be clickable. (The way these work is that people have a bunch to choose from in any given promo and choose the ones they find most interesting or appealing. I specifically designed this one to be Extra Buttery. The previous Most Buttery one I had was Dragon & Detective, but I stopped being able to use that one for the mailing list signup when it became the first book in a series ...)

Anyway, this is the result of my brainstorming back in April/May about what would get people to sign up for my mailing list while also being appropriate to my current writing style and also fun for me to write, and, hopefully, fun for people to read. I mean, basically it's the venn diagram intersection of "people who read urban fantasy mystery like this" and "I like this" so ...

It's a sort of buddy-movie adventure with a unicorn "fixer" and an annoyed social worker who is saddled ~~ha ha I slay me~~ with him as they investigate a small town with extremely large problems.

He's the fae court's fixer.

This time, he's got a string of suspicious murders to solve and a human partner who doesn't trust him, and he's having to do it while hurt, sleep-deprived, and under a geas. (So what else is new.) And with the Summer Queen breathing down his neck and holding his leash, failure isn't an option.

But death certainly is.

After a couple weeks of frantic last-minute revisions, Keeley #5 is uploaded and ready for release on April 27! My betas were absolutely HEROIC this week, doing a lightning-fast turnaround on the *cough* 7400 words of climax revisions I wrote on Monday.

Featuring a magic luck-bending deck of cards, a high-stakes poker game, and a murder mystery in a (literally) underground casino run by a dragon.

Like all the books in the series, the plot is largely self-contained, so the book can be read without having read the others. There are some ongoing subplots, but there should be enough backstory in the book itself to follow them. As per my usual style, they keep getting longer with each book; this one is about 60K.

I've been working on book edits and didn't have spare brain cells to mention it, but I had a book out last week!

Moose Madness (published as Mar Delaney) appeared in the Her Wild Soulmate anthology a couple of years ago, so most of you have probably read it - this is the moose shifter/wolf shifter small-town F/F one. Due to the anthology terms, it's not Amazon-exclusive, so I'm going to go wide with it, but I haven't gotten around to setting it up on other platforms yet. (This will be interesting, as I've been publishing almost exclusively with Amazon and KU over the last few years.) Anyway, if you don't want to buy it from Amazon you don't have to. I'll have other links later.

Due to the book edits/lack of brain cells, I didn't put up a new Watership Down post this past weekend. It will be up in the next couple of days! Or, if I don't manage it soon, I'll just skip a week and do it this weekend.

hurtcomfortex stories were revealed this week! (They are still anonymous.)

I got an absolutely lovely gift, Owen & Ianto locked up together and huddling for warmth, with doctor!Owen and trying to work through their season one issues in their emotionally stunted way. Healing an Injury - it made me very happy and I recommend!

I also read a really great Rivers of London fic in the collection, Last Resort - gen, Peter & Nightingale (with background Bev), that reads exactly like a missing chapter from the books, except iddier.

For the sake of simplicity I'm just copying some of this out of Wordpress and pasting it as rich text while making my author-blog post on the same topic. Hopefully the formatting doesn't bork too badly. BTW, I also posted some Alaska pictures over at the realname blog.

So these are my 2020 books! I've got a few things on sale or free this week, and some things perma-free. (As always, absolutely no obligation to buy/download. Most links go to Amazon. Free stuff is on BookFunnel.) I'm going to take a break from the weekly mailing list short stories for the first few months of 2021, and resume in probably May or so ... but most likely not weekly; that's turning out to be overkill, and a lot of extra work for me.

Another thing I've discovered about the weekly stories is that readers have a strong preference for stories that are short - small enough to past into an email, preferably around 1500 words or less - but also react very badly to stories that don't read as complete. So most of the stories I had intended to use for this are actually sub-optimal; they're either too long, or snippets of something that was meant to be longer. It might work better to just write a flashfic a month or so, specifically intended for the mailing list, if I want to keep doing it. I'll see how 2021 goes.

I CANNOT BELIEVE I'VE FINISHED THIS SERIES!! I've been writing it since 2009. Finished for now, anyway - the possibility of future books exists, but for now it's a standalone trilogy. I got to create a "Series - Done" folder in my Fiction folder just for this. ♥
