Cannot BELIEVE I still have an SPN icon!

Anyway ... I first started making fanvids for fun in 2002, but I began posting them on LJ in 2006, and since 2026 is therefore my 20th anniversary of posting the first one (#what) and I've been wanting to get more of them on AO3, I decided to make that a project for this year!

So here's my 2006 one and only Supernatural vid, Life is a Highway.

This isn't the first one I put online, but of the 2006 vids I think it's probably one of my favorites and a good one to start with. Contains clips up to late season one because that's all I'd watched at that point and most of what was available. Here's the original LJ-imported-to-DW post. Please enjoy this dive into an alternate reality a moment in time when season one of Supernatural was literally All There Was.

Obviously at this point all I have is the exported file rather than the original vidding files (as this was at least 5 computers ago) so 2006 quality is what you're getting, including some slight wonkiness with jerky video and slightly odd cropping (I was screencapturing the video, which explains both the slight borders that occasionally appear - I got a lot better at cropping later - and a few instances of jerkiness as my 2006 computer struggled to render the video). The credits also include my original 2000s-era LJ name, which some of you may remember.

IIRC, I was making these earliest vids on a really old copy of Adobe Premiere that I had absconded with from my college computer lab in the 1990s.

Also, an interesting bit of context on the 20th anniversary vidding project - I discovered recently that I uploaded a bunch (most? all?) of my older vids to Vimeo in 2016 on the private setting, so apparently I was planning a *10th* anniversary vidding project, but got derailed somehow. What is time.

Today was a yardwork day ... putting together the frames for raised garden beds and partially filling them with semi-composted chicken litter (sawdust, mostly). I think I'm ready to go get a pickup truck load of topsoil in the next couple of days -- our yard is gravel tailings (old mine waste) and we have NO dirt except for the odd bit of river clay here and there. This year, for the first time in the seven years we've been here, I'm attempting an actual, respectable garden rather than a couple of containers with tomatoes in them. It's not going to be huge, but large enough to grow some tomatoes and squash and corn and salad stuff.

The weather's been great -- 70 degrees and not too cold at night. We usually figure the end of May is the beginning of the "no frost" gardening safety zone, but the weather's supposed to be up to 80 by the end of the week and I doubt if we'll be seeing freezing temperatures again this year. My little seedlings are outgrowing their bitty containers; I need to get them transplanted. The trees are barely turning green, but it feels like summer!

And we have 24 hours of daylight now. The sun sets around 11-ish (actually a bit earlier for us, since we're in a valley) and comes up about 4 a.m. By the middle of June, it'll barely dip below the horizon for an hour or so in the middle of the night. Mmm, summer.

Shockingly, I'm actually watching other shows besides LoM! Amazing, I know. I just keep forgetting to post anything about them. Mostly because I haven't really been blown away by anything dazzling.

I went into my thoughts on the "Ghostfacers" episode of Supernatural in this comment thread over here. Now we're caught up on the latest and ... I kinda just want to write this season out of my personal canon. This wasn't a bad episode, but it's gotten to where I'm so braced to cringe when I watch the show that I'm not even enjoying the good bits anymore, especially since the show seems determined to live down to pretty much every low expectation that I have. And, no, I don't know why SPN is getting to me so much worse on the race & gender stuff than most of the other things I watch. But it is.

Is that all I'm watching right now? I guess it is. Of course, I'm also re-watching LoM again from the beginning, so it's not as if I'm suffering for lack of entertainment.

I haven't really posted much about Supernatural lately. Overall, I'm enjoying this season, and "Bad Day at Black Rock" was one of my favorite episodes to date; I loved getting an episode that was, for the most part, just fun for the sake of being fun, very much a throwback to the aspects of the show that made me fall for it back in Season 1.

However, I'm starting to have a problem with SPN that is threatening to overcome my enjoyment of the show. I'm not in SPN fandom, and I poked around idly on LJ trying to figure out if this is just me or if other people are having this problem too. Basically, all I'm seeing is squee for last night's episode, so maybe it is just me, which is a discomfort-inducing thought all by itself. And I did have squee for the episode, really I did; it's just that I also had ... issues.

Okay. Let me get something out of the way. I love Supernatural. I love the boys, I love the relationship they have, I love the guest stars, I love the whole concept of their world. It's a cool show.

I just didn't really like this episode very much.
