sholio: Jack-o-lanterns (Halloween-jack-o-lanterns)
The Fall Into Horror collection is revealed (horror prompting collection associated with Summer of Horror) and I got a 19K(!!!!!) treat for one of my prompts!

Strange Meetings by Anon (19,336 words, Biggles, EvS-centric, gen)

This was for a prompt I left for Erich being under a curse - any type of curse - and it DELIVERS. Warning for some pretty dark content in the first chapter (but in the best way, I say as someone who likes that kind of thing - there's one scene which is right up there with some of the best published horror I've read, in a Grade-A nightmare-fuel kind of way**) and the emotional payoff is excellent.

(Also can I just say that the Mysterious Writer did a truly incredible job threading the needle of my DNWs which honestly must have been pretty tough for this plot, but the results are A++++.)

**
Vague spoilers for that sceneTHE SINKING U-BOAT ESCAPE WITH THE DEAD-BUT-NOT-DEAD THING IN THE CORNER OF THE ROOM, JFC. Aside from being entirely the wrong time period, I could totally picture a scene like that in a Stephen Graham Jones horror novel, tbh. (I say this as high praise.) Also props for the fact that merely suffocating in a holed U-boat would have been the actual LEAST worst option here, I love it and also HELL TO THE NOPE (positive).
sholio: two men in the water, one being carried (Biggles-h/c)
A couple of posts ago I mentioned that there's an H/C promptfest running on AO3 in Nov-Dec. A few Biggles prompts have appeared. Mysteriously. (And not just by me!)

https://archiveofourown.org/collections/HCFest2024/requests

I know the fandom is currently Dead Of FIAB (and Whumptober), but I'm not doing FIAB or Yuletide sooooo I wouldn't mind having some prompts to tempt my creativity in November, I'm just saying.
sholio: a red cup by a stack of books (Books & coffee 2)
My dubcon ficlet from last night now has a very iddy and delightful follow-up commentfic by an anon commenter (contains references to noncon).

I am intrigued by this h/c prompt fest on AO3. (Link goes to the fandom calendar entry.) If anyone is moved to leave Biggles h/c prompts, I will definitely be taking a look at them ...
sholio: cute smiling cartoon cupcake with a candle (Birthday cupcake)

You get the option of swapping some of them out, and I can definitely see some on here that I either don't want to write or don't want to write for the specific characters in my current fandom, but I'll think about that in the morning.

Some of them are amazing, though. Along with a few of my perennial choices (shifter AU!) just imagine them as squabbling academics. Or Erich as the single dad next door. Or what roles they'd all have in a circus .... Now distinctly tempted to send the canon characters undercover in a circus.
sholio: Halloween candles (Halloween-candles)
Added some prompts to Fall into Horror. I expect it will surprise no one that Biggles features heavily. (Fall spooky season is coming, wheee! I have high hopes for [personal profile] spook_me this year.)

[community profile] ficinabox is open for signups! I am still on the fence about this one, but there's a nearly 2-week signup period and I am prone to being tempted with tasty prompts.

In other news, I'm traveling to visit family for the next couple of weeks, so I might be even scarcer than usual online. I do plan to have some sort of fall event plan up for [community profile] bigglesevents while I'm traveling, though!
sholio: Autumn leaf frosted at edges (Autumn-frosted leaf)
Fall Into Horror is a horror/spooky multifandom prompt claiming fest run by [personal profile] summerofhorrorexchange, running from now through early November. Info and dates at the link!

Multifandom AU Challenge seems to be a new event that looks fun! Looks like it's in the form of prompt tables that anyone can use, or individual bingo cards. *instant Pavlovian response to the presence of a bingo card signup*

Over at [community profile] bigglesevents, I'm inviting input on whether we should run a Sept-Oct event of some sort.
sholio: Jack-o-lanterns (Halloween-jack-o-lanterns)
If short horror fic might be your thing, this just started and you can leave prompt or fills; rules at the post.

sholio: airplane flying away from a tan colored castle (Biggles-castle airplane)
Just a reminder that Smut4Biggles is still going on, with lots of available prompts (new prompts also happily accepted!) and an updated list of fills.

I plan on trying to fill a couple more prompts over the weekend, but there are no particular intentions to close the fest anytime soon; it can stay open as long as there's interest.

(Also, a Cuddles4Biggles fest has been discussed and I've already offered to run it ...)
sholio: aged sepia paper with printed text saying "If undelivered, return to Air Ministry, London" (Biggles-london air ministry)
There is now a masterlist post collecting and linking to prompt fills, which I will update as new fills come in.

On a non-smutty front, don't miss a new continuation snippet by [personal profile] philomytha of the Febuwhump snippet I posted last night!
sholio: text reading My Dashing Nemesis (Biggles-nemesis)
A few people in the Biggles fandom were interested in the [community profile] smut4smut exchange but don't have enough different fandoms to participate, so we are now having Smut4Biggles, an informal smutty commentfic fest (promptmeme/kinkmeme style) over at the [community profile] bigglesevents comm. (Not associated with Smut4smut in any way; we just liked the name.)

Prompt ye some smut thisaway!

Rules are explained at the link; let me know if anything is unclear. Basically it's a typical promptmeme/commentfic fest. Anonymous commenting is currently turned on over there and anon prompts/fills are fine, though I reserve the right to turn it off if things go sideways. Fills may also be posted elsewhere and linked to, crossposted, etc.

Update: also I added a note that it's fine to comment on other people's prompts with non-fills, like if you want to chime in and express your liking for a prompt, or ask a question. I'm prepared to walk this back if Bad Stuff Happens, but it's a friendly, chatty fandom and it seems like being able to comment on other people's prompts just to say that you like it might be a nice form of interaction as well.
sholio: blue and yellow airplane flying (Biggles-Biplane)
AU Fest reveals are Saturday, which I mention in case anyone is trying to finish up any of those tasty tasty prompts.

Also very glad I finally got my [community profile] ficinabox signup done!

I have several (very short) ficlets written for the no-true-pairing thing, so I think I'm going to make September another post-every-day month and see how that goes. It was interesting how just having decided that I wanted *something* up every day in July made me more likely to try. Now that it's not a thing for me in August, I can feel myself going ".... this feels like work", or not wanting to post something extremely short and frivolous. So yeah, I actually kinda miss it and I want to do it again!

Also extremely tempting: Bring Back the Porn:
The Challenge: On September 1st, post something porny to your journal or favorite archive. This can be fic, art, icons, meta, your favorite porny recs, a dirty limerick, etc., etc. Then come back here and drop off a link so we can all enjoy the smutty goodness.

I think this fest may need some Biggles representation.
sholio: blue and yellow airplane flying (Biggles-Biplane)
Earlier this month (h/t to [personal profile] snickfic) I signed up for, and then completely forgot about, [community profile] no_true_pair, in which you make a list of 8 characters and then the mods provide a prompt list (e.g. "1 & 7 go to a museum") and you see how your characters fit; it's like that old LJ meme.

The prompts are out (as that post says, "If you haven't signed up yet, SIGN UP BEFORE LOOKING AT THE PROMPTS" - everyone gets the same prompt list) and let's see what my characters are doing! (They can be from one fandom or any number of fandoms, as you like. In a twist that is shocking to no one, I chose all Biggles.)

My character list was as follows:

1. Algy Lacey
2. James "Biggles" Bigglesworth
3. Ginger Hebblethwaite
4. Bertie Lissie
5. Erich von Stalhein
6. Colonel Raymond
7. Fritz Lowenhardt
8. Marie Janis

Let's see what they're doing!

... and it arrived with a light frost that took out most of my herbs. Alaska, I love you, but we might have to see other people if this keeps up.

I (a fool) decided to kick off June by signing up for tasty-looking bingo cards I probably will end up not writing anything for. I have requested two of them, first of all for July Break Bingo (instructions at the link), which looks really fun and features a wide variety of prompt types and customization options, and the other for [community profile] scaldinghotcibingo (dubcon/noncon prompts) - I'm genuinely unsure how many of these will be relevant to my interests, but since some of them definitely are and there's nothing to lose, I thought it'd be fun to give it a spin.

Hi! Thank you so much for writing for me! I'm very excited to see what you come up with, and I'm sure I'll like whatever you make.

Don't worry about whether you're sticking close enough to the requested horror type, or whether your story is horror enough. If the story wanders, that's fine. The prompts are also for suggestions only and not meant to confine you to only writing those ideas. I'm fine with something short and atmospheric rather than plotty.

I welcome treats!

I was struggling so hard with my original Biggles Bingo card that I decided to use modly prerogative and roll again. (I rarely feel this blocked on one of these bingo card games, but that one was just doing *nothing* for me; everything I wanted to write, I had already written.) Either this one will work out better, or I might have better luck with the first one if I'm procrastinating on this one.

Daring escape Pirates Car crash in a high-speed chase Flying the enemy's plane Mad elephant
Secret tunnel Undercover with the enemy Crustaceans Water landing Dinner invitations
Vague tropical fever Land mines WILD CARD Secret Ruritanian royalty Looking great on a horse
Imprisoned in a tower Praising the Enemy Held at gunpoint by a dashing nemesis Castles Mistaking your friend for an enemy
Storm Chasing butterflies Sandstorm Electric centipedes Nearly drowned

I think I'm liking this one better already. Also, I was pleased that the one square I'd already started something for (Dinner Invitations) actually repeated on this card by pure chance!

Row 4 is literally just the plot of Biggles & Co ...
sholio: sun on winter trees (Biggles-plane)
I have a bingo card and now must contemplate it. Suggestions are welcome, including combining multiple squares. It doesn't necessarily have to be for Biggles, though it helps.

Snakes on a plane A mysterious coded postcard Islands Lost in a blizzard Land mines
Passing out Camel chase An unconvincing disguise Dinner invitations Lost city
Sleeping together A curative nip of brandy WILD CARD Besieged in an abandoned fortress Downed behind enemy lines
Drugged hallucinations Naked and dripping wet Castles Pirates Secret rendezvous
Chased by wolves Kidnapped A quiet holiday for shattered nerves Prisoner of war Storm
sholio: Snow-covered trees (Winter-snowy trees)
But I have now discovered this delightful challenge:

https://whumpcember.tumblr.com/post/700177640872722432/introducing-whumpcember-2022

These prompts are absolutely amazing for my current fandom. I'm just saying.

I greatly approve of the proliferation of h/c challenges and prompting events that's been going around lately.
sholio: Cocoa in red cup with cinnamon stick (Christmas cocoa)
The Cocktail Hour - a low-pressure prompting event in which you get the randomly assigned name of a cocktail drink as a writing prompt!

I didn't like my first one and asked for two more, and got "Stinger" and "In Noble Fashion" - both of which I think definitely have promise.

Not gonna lie, I'm kind of jealous of the people who got aviation-related ones. "Paper Plane" is especially cool.
