Fall Into Horror

The Fall Into Horror collection is revealed (horror prompting collection associated with Summer of Horror) and I got a 19K(!!!!!) treat for one of my prompts!

Strange Meetings by Anon (19,336 words, Biggles, EvS-centric, gen)

This was for a prompt I left for Erich being under a curse - any type of curse - and it DELIVERS. Warning for some pretty dark content in the first chapter (but in the best way, I say as someone who likes that kind of thing - there's one scene which is right up there with some of the best published horror I've read, in a Grade-A nightmare-fuel kind of way**) and the emotional payoff is excellent.

(Also can I just say that the Mysterious Writer did a truly incredible job threading the needle of my DNWs which honestly must have been pretty tough for this plot, but the results are A++++.)

**
Vague spoilers for that sceneTHE SINKING U-BOAT ESCAPE WITH THE DEAD-BUT-NOT-DEAD THING IN THE CORNER OF THE ROOM, JFC. Aside from being entirely the wrong time period, I could totally picture a scene like that in a Stephen Graham Jones horror novel, tbh. (I say this as high praise.) Also props for the fact that merely suffocating in a holed U-boat would have been the actual LEAST worst option here, I love it and also HELL TO THE NOPE (positive).

THE SINKING U-BOAT ESCAPE WITH THE DEAD-BUT-NOT-DEAD THING IN THE CORNER OF THE ROOM, JFC.

Decades ago in elementary school, I read a story I have never been able to find again or even identify with drowned horror in a submarine! I shall have to check this out.

There's a very memorable ghosts-of-drowning-submariners scene in Adventure Two of Sapphire and Steel.

(a) This is true; it's great.

(b) Do agree it feels like a bizarrely underserved subgenre considering the nightmare fuel baked in at the engineering and physics levels.

(c) Please enjoy Gemma Files' "Blood Makes Noise" (1998).

I MEANT TO COME BACK AND REPLY TO THIS, hullo, I wrote the fic mentioned in the post ^_^ So I am also a huge Sapphire and Steel fan, and the moment Sholio mentioned horror-set-in-a-submarine in the comment above I thought 'oh, of course, that section in Assignment Two was absolute A-grade creepy submarine content'. But I don't think I actually had the Sapphire and Steel scene in mind when I wrote the fic! Weird. I guess odds are it was lurking in my subconscious though. That Assignment is *so* good.

I've only just got round to reading this and it has killed me stone dead. Absolute perfection, I am in awe. The whole bit on the u-boat is just incredible, cannot even begin to get over it.

(sorry couldn't resist breaking out the ghost Biggles icon)
