I won't sign up for more exchanges, she said, before being tempted by exchanges. Although this is more a broad smorgasbord of things I'm currently being tempted by.

I'm probably not signing up for Sex Pollen Exchange despite being very tempted. I love the trope, but I suspect signing up to write it for other people would be a great way for my brain to decide it had never seen a sex pollen in its life. (Signups close Aug. 31.)

I'm definitely not doing ficinabox this year (signups 'til Aug. 31) because I'm definitely not up for 10K right now, but I wish the best to all who are throwing themselves on that pyre!

One thing I actually am seriously thinking about signing up for is Out of Order Exchange, a semi-flash exchange for non-linear fic. Currently taking nominations, and the signup window is tiny (Aug. 29-Sept. 1), then there's a 2-week writing period. I just think it sounds like a fun challenge (300 word minimum, 1 fandom minimum for requests/offers).

I also did sign up for fandomgiftbasket, which is taking signups until Sept. 5. This one has no requirement to create anything; you can simply leave prompts (3 fandom minimum) and receive gifts. They do have a tendency towards delays if they have trouble filling all the baskets.

And this year's Whumptober prompts are out! (There is also a Whumptember challenge, because of course there is.) This is like the WORST year to try to write all the Whumptober days, because I have a lot going on that month, but I am so tempted to at least give it a try.

Non-linear narrative flash exchange does sound fun! I haven't done a non-linear story for a long time...

I still might be tempted in a FIAB direction, and Whumptober as always appeals, but what I really need right now is a WIP finishing exchange /o\

I know what you mean, though. I'm trying to avoid anything else this fall except prompts/working on WIPs and maybe Trick or Treat if it runs again.

If you do decide not to sign up for sexpollenplus, please know that I am very excited to write for that exchange and would welcome extra Biggles prompts based on the tagset 😉

Hmm, I might have a look at Fandom Gift Basket. I've not been doing much fandom wise for a while now and this could be a good way to kick my ass into gear motivate myself back into making some icons and such like!! :D

I like that it's a very low-investment exchange that doesn't require too much effort! Very much my speed right now.

If you want something that's a low-key challenge, take a look at 1character where you pick 1 character (even original), 1 set of 50 prompts (wait for it), and write *1* sentence using each prompt and your character. The sentences can be independent, long, short, arcane, whatever. And you have 3 months (!) to write your 50 sentences.

We were thinking it's an interesting way to get into the backstory of a character and a low pressure way to write something, even if it's mostly for yourself.

And I'm looking at Whumptober but I'm a hurt-has-to-have-comfort type but it's a good challenge!

I saw 1character, but I'm not sure if I could actually restrain myself to 1 sentence (or 1 character). I'm more of a 200 sentence kind of gal. 😂

I usually use Whumptober mostly for the prompts and then just let it take me where it's going to, which is often in a comfort direction!

It really is! I like it in theory, but in actual reality, the years I've tried to write short stuff because I haven't had a long fic in me really DID feel like signing up for three exchanges at once. (In fact that was a major contributor to my last case of exchange burnout, unfortunately.)

I love all the different mediums being an option, though.

The two years where I had energy to spare, I had a fantastic time and wrote tonnes. Years when I have marginal energy, I don't go near it.
