SAM AND DEAN DO NOT APPROVE

ahahahaha .... check out this forthcoming statuette of Dean Winchester to be sold at Comicon. Well, at least that's who they claim it is. THE PAIN.

O DEAR LORD.

Usually I just roll my eyes at the awfulness of figures' likenesses. But man, that brings new meaning to the word "hideous"...

I KNOW! I mean, I'm used to the likenesses being kind of ... off. I'm used to action figures that are misshapen and just odd-looking. But that one -- it's like they didn't even have a picture of him and just used a description of him in the series bible or something ...

...

They pay people to design these, don't they? How can likeness be this bad and the prototype still been accepted?? It boggles the mind. (Also, omg my eyes!!)

It's not unlike the possible love child of James Dean and the Hulk... only without the green :/

The advertisement should read "Put it in the window to scare away solicitors and annoying children." Because it would, it so would.

Maybe it would be better if it WERE green! Then at least we could imagine that it was Dean all hulked out ... and that would explain why it looks nothing like him. ;p

I think your suggestion has merit. :D I know it would scare ME away!

Looks vaguely like a Mad magazine version of Dean.

My eyes, my eyes, my precious eyes...!

*goes and finds screencaps of Ackles at his best and brightest SPN moments*

Ah, relief...

Seriously... a company that puts out something that atrocious is not worth dealing with. How are they even allowed to claim that it's Dean? (Or is it "inspired by" Dean of Supernatural???!)

"Inspired by ..." Yeah, that's just about the only legitimate claim they can possibly make! :D

I don't think there's any way to recognise who that statue is supposed to be without being told. And the addition of the Mad Magazine character underneath cracks me up no end.

Seriously, this makes the figurines for SGA and Dr Who look like almost lifelike replicas. The mind does boggle. Maybe they paid the guy in advance before he submitted the statue and he figured "What the heck, I've already got the money, why even try?"

Also, hi! Another random comment by your phantom internet friend who only manages to pop up once in a blue moon. ;-P

... who are you again? :p

Eh, you're not missing much. Fandom is much more of a downer than an upper lately. I really need to start hanging out in more cheerful corners of fandom, if any such things exist these days!

[identity profile] derry667.livejournal.com 2009-06-29 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the shows I watch are on hiatus at the moment or have ended. So I expected it would be lean times for me fandomwise. I think that when the shows aren't on, the wankery goes into overdrive - like, there's nothing actually happening so let's just make shit up to bitch about.

I'm not an "all rainbows and sunshine" girl (you know I'm not), but the intense negativity that entered SGA fandom and the batshit craziness that pervades SPN fandom (and which makes me only dare to peek through my fingers at the internet version of Dr Who fandom) - made me take a step back a while ago.

I'm eternally grateful that I now consider myself have friends who are fellow fans, rather than consider myself part of "THE fandom" for various shows.

I'd offer to do something cherrfully fannish for you, but I'd probably get overwhelmed with stuff and renege. *hangs head in shame about a certain ficathon*
ext_1981: (Christmas cookies)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2009-06-29 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Please don't feel bad about the ficathon! I was pretty hard-assed about sticking to the deadlines this year, and you're not the only one who didn't make it.

I appreciate the offer of an offer, though. :D

Regarding fandom ... yeah, god. Well, you know how I feel about that. Even though SGA fandom seems to have calmed down a lot, I still don't feel particularly comfortable in it (and I fully expect a whole new round of bitching, bitterness and misery when Stargate Universe begins airing). I agree with you that the wankery gets out of control when there's no new squee to focus on (or in SGA's case, apparently, just the *possibility* of having nothing new was enough to do it ...) And I also think that, with Livejournal making everything so interconnected, people's moods tend to feed off each other and reflect that -- if most people are having fun, the whole fandom's having fun, but the more fans get (vocally) dissatisfied, the more miserable the overall mood of the fandom gets. For a while, the fandom was going in my direction; then it veered off in a radically different direction, which happens. It was nice while it lasted, is all.

But I really do believe that you get out of fandom (and life) what you put into it, so unless I start having so much trouble dealing with it that I leave fandom -- permanently or temporarily -- I do plan to focus on the fun bits and try to enjoy myself. I had a long out-of-fandom spell prior to SGA (I hadn't been fannishly active, writing fic and such, since about 2003, 'til I started up again in '06) and perhaps I'll come to the point, again, when I just need to step back and take a break for a while.
