Supernatural finale

Hey, anyone out there want to spoil me totally for the Supernatural finale? And the current season in general? :D I had been thinking that I might get caught up someday (especially if they changed some of the things that made me quit the show!), but, no, by now I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to. But I'm curious, damn it. Tell me of it!

ETA: I do have a fairly detailed answer now in the DW comments; don't let that stop you from commenting if you feel like it, though.

What do you want to know?

There have been two trials, one to supposedly close heaven, one to close hell. One to be done by either of the brothers (Sam is the one who 'wins'), the other by Cas.

And in the finale, the two arcs come together with some great Crowley torturing and getting tortured scenes and some great visuals :)

More details???

I've kind of been half listening to the show while faffing around online, since it comes on after Arrow and before Duck Dynasty.....

The current season has been about Prophet of the Lord, teenager Kevin Tran, and a tablet called the Demon Tablet. He's been translating it, and has discovered a series of three trials that would close the gates of Hell. Sam started them, with killing a hellhound, so he has to complete them, and it's also killing him.

The boys also find out their grandfather on the Winchester side was a Man Of Letters...secret society of magic users kind of like the Watchers on Buffy. Big on the research, look down on hunters. He time-travels, meets them, and gets killed in the present, which is why their dad thought his father abandoned them when he was six. But they inherit an awesome Mid Century Mod batcave/bunker, and Dean is thrilled at having a real kitchen and his own room.

There's also an Angel tablet, and an ongoing squabble in Heaven. Castiel picks the wrong side, and the Metatron uses the tablet to cast angels out of Heaven.

The final trial was curing a demon through a new combination of repeated injections of innocent blood and exorscism. They decide to try it on Crowley. There's a fairly hilarious bit with Crowley recounting the plot of some HBO soap and crying that even he just wants to be loved.

The final shot of the episode is Dean watching hundreds of shooting stars and realizing that it's angels falling to Earth. I don't know if they closed Hell, but the angels have been kicked out of Heaven.

Yeah, the Man of Letters thing was really interesting (and I so wanted a 50s era spin off/ fanfic au after it) and they all got wiped out, so now Sam and Dean have this huge base full of old research and weapons.

In general It's been the usual, killing lots of demons with some other stuff thrown in. I see someone told you the over all theme.

There have been a few outstanding episodes - the men of letters thread/idea was really interesting. I've liked the batcave - that they have a base. Also a really funny roleplay episode that had me laughing so hard. If you've ever done D&D, it's a scream. However, there have been a few episodes I never want to see again. A little TOO heavy on the torture aspect. yuck. Not nearly enough of Castiel this season

I haven't seen the finale yet (family hassles this week), so I'm looking forward to it.
