Oooooh

For my US flistees, Amazon is offering free shipping on pre-orders of Ghost Story. *pre-orders*

So, these are the episodes of Sanctuary I've not yet watched. Which ones should I watch next?

[Poll #1664463]

Also, it would be useful to know if there any episodes I should avoid at all costs...

Thanks for all the help, guys!

Warriors is one of my least favorite episodes, however, that's the episode where Helen's father is introduced and we get flashbacks to Victorian England.

The whole Kali thing sets up the Hollow Earth storyline so you should probably watch the three-parter and Firewall. There is a lot about the Kali episodes that I like, other parts make me seriously cringe.

I agree with frogspace about Warriors. I didn't bother with that one when I re-watched.

Certain of the episodes have guest stars who you'll be very familiar with, although I seem to recall that's not something you're too bothered about.

Nubbins, Hero and Hero II are funny ones; so if you want something silly, those are the ones to watch.

Edward and Kush are very enjoyable, dealing with some interesting scenarios. I don't recall the season 2 and 3 eps my name, so can't advise.

Shanks is in an episode, right? Bring 'em on! :D

That's "Penance". The Carson Beckett actor is in the "Kali" episodes.

And David Nykl is in Kush.

Kali looked like it was going to have a lot of "do not want"

Sadly you are not wrong about that. *sigh* You could maybe skip the first two and just watch the last part of Kali. Also, if you have a thing about spiders, be warned!

yeah, Kali has plenty of 'do not want' but I did get a bit of a kick seeing them in faux!India and Japan. and it's definitely plot critical even if i don't understand what's going on completely.

I totally agree about skipping Warriors, it was pretty terrible. I always like Next Tuesday, though, which is pretty ridiculous in a fun way.

Ghost Story! *makes grabby hands* Oh man, I wish I could preorder, but I think I'm going to wait for my usual signed copy from Dogeared Books...

Three months!!

Hey, it's not just a me thing (http://www.dogearedhalf-pricebooks.com/)... ;) Although they don't have the signing bit up on the website yet, it usually goes up around March.

I think you'd like Penance--there's some good backstory for Kate in that one (and Shanks, so yeah). I'll add in another "don't bother with Warriors." Ugh.

With Warriors, I'd highly recommend fast forwarding through the entirety of the A plot with Will and only watching the B plot with Helen and her father. I'm rather fond of Kush, though I can't really say why. Pavor Nocturnus is an apocalyptic AU episode, which I think is pretty entertaining. The Kali Trilogy sets up a lot of important stuff and has Paul McGillion as a foil for Helen, but also has a lot of stuff I just cringe through (largely the Will-centric stuff). Fragments is a good Henry episode with the guy who plays Paul Davis in it, and Penance is a good Kate episode with Shanks in it. Both of the Heroes hit my embarrassment squick like whoa, but other people seem to like them.

OH! Thanks for the heads up. *wails* April 5? We still have to wait for April 5!

Folding Man is a blatant rip off of The X-File's Squeeze/Tooms, but I guess it didn't suck that badly. Warriors, on the other hand, is a godforsaken piece of drivel that no amount of rewatching has made better. Fragments sucks too, but at least it's got MAJOR DAVIS!!!!! That said, I am a fan of watching every single episode of a series at least once because even those terrible episodes sometimes have tiny pieces that are good.

Hero and Hero II kind of suck... but Kate's in a skintight jumpsuit!

I highly, highly recommend Veritas, Next Tuesday and Kush.

Nubbins is a fun episode much in the same vain as Trouble with Tribbles was from Star Trek.

Pavor Nocturnus was the first episode without Tesla in it that I really loved, so I'd definitely recommend that. (Okay, technically it was Revelations part 1, but I count that together with it's follow up episode, and you've already seen that anyway.)

I personally coudn't get myself through Folding Man and Hero, so I'd skip those entirely if given a second chance. Well, and I did skip Hero II so I couldn't comment on that.

Folding Man - I think this one is worth watching. It's far from their best, but I think it's one of the better season one episodes. It's got a bit of a "forming the team" feel in terms of breaking in Will as the new guy.

Kush - I think this is actually one of the best season one episodes. It's pretty solid, although there's at least one death that annoys me.

Nubbins - It's The Trouble With Tribbles, so as long as you go in expecting it to be fun and a bit goofy, it's fun. Just don't expect a lot.

Edward - I'm not so fond of the main plot although it is a really interesting idea, but it's got some good Henry bits (with him struggling with what to do with his HAP side).

Warriors - This is a ridiculous episode and probably their worst, hands down. That said, I enjoy it for two reasons and think it's worth watching for a third. It's worth it for the not-Will plot, in which we meet Gregory Magnus and get some backstory filled in. I enjoy it because 1) Will's friend Danny looks a lot like a boy named Danny I had a crush on in high school and I'm shallow and 2) the end has a moment that made me want to ship Henry/Will and really want post-Warriors fic about them.

Hero - Meh. It has it's moments, but it's pretty weak. It's less bad than the season three, and Sanctuary is at least loving in the way it pokes fun at comic book nerd-types but.... Honestly, it's probably skippable. Does have some good Declan.

Pavor Nocturnus - And now we're hitting the part where I actually don't remember most of season two. *checks wikipedia* Ah, yes, the future apocalyptic Earth one. A lot of fandom squeed over this episode but I was less impressed, mostly because anytime Will goes warrior I just end up laughing outloud at how comically unbelievable he is at the role. That said, Amanda Tapping acted her socks off in this episode and I think it's very much worth watching, particularly for richer Helen characterization.

Fragments - Is a great Henry episode that is mostly ruined by a weak plot and Colin Cunnigham (Major Paul Davis) chewing every piece of scenery he gets within 10 feet of. Worth watching for Henry being adorable and the implication that Helen has worked with another woman ever.

Veritas - Um. I remember this being watchable? And Henry making me sniffly? And something with an underground tunnel?

Next Tuesday - This episode is ridiculous in that made-for-SyFy monster-of-the-week movie way, and definitely hit my "OMFG SANCTUARY JUST LET HELEN INTERACT WITH ANOTHER WOMAN" button. But it's goofy fun if you take it at face value. Mostly I watched it on a plane flight from Boston to San Francisco and thought "I can't believe you just made me watch a giant scorpion battle a telepathic octopus and what must my seatmates think?"

Penance - Michael Shanks! Yes, I squeed during his 3 seconds of shared screentime with Amanda Tapping. This one is definitely watchable, though has some problems (not the least of which that I cannot believe Kate's claim for where she grew up). We get some Kate backstory, and Shanks's character is interesting. Though you know how I said that I can usually handwave away the show's bad science? Yeah, this was too much.

The Kali trilogy - It has moments of greatness and moments of not so greatness but I think it's important to watch for the season three storyline, and necessary for "Firewall", which is very good.

Hero II - If you liked Hero, you might like it. It hit my embarrassment squick harder than the first and was mostly a melding of two SG-1 episodes (Momento Mori and Wormhole X-Treme) and I think you could skip it (and the first Hero) easily as they don't involve the larger storyline.
