sholio: Claire looking at Darien (Invisible Man-Darien Claire)
...It's becoming fairly obvious that I have absolutely ZERO ability to get these posts up twice a week. I suppose I'll aim for once a week, perhaps with an extra one on weeks when I have more than the usual amount of "can".

Spoiler code for future-episode spoilers:

On with the rewatch!

Spoilers for future episodes should be hidden using one of the following methods:

  • LJ spoiler cut: <lj-spoiler>spoiler text</lj-spoiler> -- does not work on DW

Invisible Man 1x05 - Impetus

I know I kinda fell off schedule with these posts. I figured rather than trying to play catchup, I'd just skip ahead and do today's post on schedule. I plan to do "Impetus" on Wednesday and "The Devil You Know" next Saturday - how does that work?

Spoilers for future episodes should be hidden using one of the following methods:

Tiresias spoilers - I should mention outside the cut that I didn't really enjoy this episode & my commentary reflects this )
sholio: Claire looking at Darien (Invisible Man-Darien Claire)
.... clearly I fail forever at making these posts in a timely fashion.

As always, spoilers for future episodes should be hidden using one of the following methods:

  • rot13 (copy-paste text into the cypher window to code or unencode it)
  • LJ spoiler cut: <lj-spoiler>spoiler text</lj-spoiler> -- does not work on DW

Invisible Man 1x03 - Ralph

Spoilers and discussion under cut )
sholio: Darien in prison orange (Invisible Man-Darien in prison)
Outside of spoiler-cut, I feel compelled to mention that the series doesn't stay this dark, which may be either an enticement or a warning. Actually, by the point I've reached in my own rewatching (late season one) it verges on pure comedy at times. Which is a bizarre mood shift considering how incredibly dark this episode is ...

If discussing spoilers from future episodes, please use your choice of the following:

  • rot13 (copy-paste text into the cypher window to code or unencode it)
  • LJ spoiler cut: <lj-spoiler>spoiler text</lj-spoiler> -- does not work on DW
  • spoiler span text: <span style="color:white;background:white;">spoiler text</span> -- does not work on LJ

Invisible Man 1x02 - The Catevari

Catevari spoilers )
sholio: Darien in prison orange (Invisible Man-Darien in prison)
Welcome to the Invisible Man watch/rewatch! If you'd like to join in, Hulu has the entire show for free. There are also a number of full-length episodes on Youtube (search "Invisible Man 2000" or "Invisible Man tv"). You are welcome to join the discussion at any point, whether or not you're watching episodes with us.

Because some people are watching it for the first time, spoilers for future episodes or plot developments (anything in advance of the episode we're discussing) should be hidden. For spoilers, please use your choice of the following:

  • rot13 (copy-paste text into the cypher window to code or unencode it)
  • LJ spoiler cut: <lj-spoiler>spoiler text</lj-spoiler> -- does not work on DW
  • spoiler span text: <span style="color:white;background:white;">spoiler text</span> -- does not work on LJ

Otherwise, anything's cool except for bashing other people's character/pairing preferences (but I don't think anyone would do that anyway). Critical discussion and squee are equally welcome.

LET'S GO!

Invisible Man 1x01 - Pilot

Comments under the cut )

Tell me your thoughts!

Also, for the next episode, shall we try two episodes a week to start? I can put up a post for the next one, "Catavari", in the middle of the week on Wednesday or so, and then a post for 1x03 this upcoming weekend. We could also wait and do "Catavari" on the weekend if people would like more time.

I didn't actually intend to get this far ahead of where the Invisible Man rewatches are going to be, but I've kinda been plowing through it; it's a perfect show for watching while I'm doing mindless, repetitive tasks. My vague recollections were certainly not underestimating how terrible some of the plots are (the sheer number of times that plot developments hinge upon major characters passing around the idiot ball ... augh) but it's also really engaging and fun, not to mention WAY darker than I remembered. I'm crushing hard on the characters right now.

I'll be putting up a discussion post for the pilot tomorrow afternoon.

One thing I wanted to get some input on: you know how on some shows, the casting changes between the pilot and the first regular episode? This is one of those shows. I'm wondering if the exact nature of the cast change is something that could be discussed without considering it a spoiler (it becomes obvious in the first five minutes of the next episode anyway, and it's hard to talk about the episode without talking about that).

The other spoilerish thing that's going to be hard to avoid in discussion is that there are a couple of major characters whose names are not revealed until several episodes into the season. I don't think their names are major spoilers and don't plan to warn for that; it's just sort of a running joke that their occupation titles are their names, until the joke gets dropped at some point.

I am clearly going to need an I-Man icon ...

I actually rewatched the premiere last night (yeah, I know, I have no patience ...) and a) I loved it a lot, and b) I had forgotten how dark this show is, in spite of also being utterly ridiculous. So yes, this rewatch is a GO!

How about the first discussion post going up this Saturday? Does that sound good to everyone -- too soon, not soon enough? (Since I'm in the Alaska time zone, which is hours behind EVERYWHERE, it'll probably be late Saturday afternoon/evening for most people.)

It looks like the poll results are leaning towards either one or two episodes a week, with most people being able to do both. Why don't we start out with two -- one on the weekend, one in the middle of the week -- and we can always drop down to just putting up a single weekend post if two is too many. Also, the premiere is LONG -- it's almost an hour and a half. So that needs to be factored in too. With so few of us, we can always just decide on the fly if we're going to want another discussion post in a particular week, or not.

Discussion of future episodes/plot points will be fine in comments as long as it's hidden (rot13, spoiler-span text, lj-spoiler cuts) so people watching it for the first time can avoid it.

The whole show (both seasons) is available for free on Hulu and it looks like Youtube also has a lot of full episodes, especially the early ones, if you can't get Hulu to work because of country restrictions or something else.

Sound good? Start this Saturday? Or maybe Sunday would be better so people have all weekend to watch it? \o?
sholio: a cup of cocoa and autumn leaves (Autumn-cocoa)
Okay, I definitely want to do an Invisible Man rewatch -- I think I'd wanna do it even if nobody joined in, but it looks like there are a few people interested in doing it too!

The main questions, I guess, are:

- How fast to watch it? One episode per week seems too slow, especially for people who are watching it the first time. But I don't want to rush people either.

- How to handle the issue of spoilers? I want newbies to be able to discuss the show without too much risk of getting severely spoiled (although this isn't really a show that suffers hugely from being spoiled, since it doesn't tend to have long arcs ...).

Consequently, a poll:

How should we handle spoilers for episodes ahead of the one we're discussing?

All spoilers are fair game

Have a non-spoiler post and a spoiler post for each episode*

Avoid spoilers (if possible) in the episode posts but have a general series discussion post where anything goes
3 (60.0%)

Other?

*FWIW, I don't like the idea of a separate spoiler and non-spoiler post; I've seen discussion communities do that, but it tends to dilute discussion too much. On the other hand, I like the idea of (reasonably) spoiler-free discussion posts plus a general, collective series discussion post where everything goes.

(LJ version of poll)

ETA: [personal profile] alessandriana points out that we can easily have both spoiler and non-spoiler comments in the same discussion as long as people white-text/lj-spoiler-cut their spoilers. Which I hadn't even thought of, but it seems like that would solve the problem!

I was just telling [personal profile] frith_in_thorns about Invisible Man (the early-2000s show) and then I went and checked on Hulu and discovered they have the whole series (both seasons!) for free. I haven't rewatched it in AGES (and I'm pretty sure I've never rewatched season two, since it never came out on DVD) and now I am thinking about maybe running a weekly rewatch -- or first-time watch for people who've never seen it -- while Hulu's still got it up.

Would anyone be interested in that?

If you've never seen it, this show could best be summed up as: adorable characters, utterly ridiculous plots, total slashbait main pairing plus a fabulous female character who make a lovely OT3 together, and scads of canon h/c. The only reason why I didn't write a ton of fanfic for it, I suspect, is because I got into it at a time when I really wasn't writing much fanfic and was mostly in anime/comics fandom circles.

(There is always the possibility that I'll go back and rewatch a couple episodes and find out that it's actually awful, of course.)
