... oooh

So, I have another completely unfounded, maybe totally wrong prediction for A:tLA - The Search. Spoilers for the first two parts under the cut - no actual future spoilers, though.

I still support the theory put forth by [personal profile] ambyr in a previous entry that the nice older couple with the little girl are Ursa and Ikem with new faces and amnesia courtesy of the Forgetting Valley and the face-changing lady.

The thought occurred to me today -- and once I thought of it, I can't un-think it -- that this might be Azula's ultimate fate in the next issue, too.

I am still trying to figure out how I feel about this. And I wouldn't want it done to her without her permission, but I can totally see her asking for it. Who would benefit more than Azula, after all, from total amnesia and a new face? She's utterly miserable, she's haunted by her past (... literally), she's recognizable all over the kingdom (well, theoretically; no one can recognize Zuko when he puts his hood up, but whatever), and no one on Team Avatar is likely to forgive her past sins. She can't let go of the past and she's unlikely to be given a no-strings-attached opportunity to start over -- with good reason; it would probably take her 0.5 seconds to start raising an army to reconquer the kingdom if they ever did. She'd almost certainly be happier with amnesia and a new identity than she is now ...

I don't generally like a "reset button" type solution, and because of the mental-health issues with Azula, I'd be interested in getting the flist's take on the potentially problematic aspects of this. But given the corner they've written themselves into with Azula, I can see it as a tidy way of removing the issue of how to handle her long-term (for the writers AND the characters).
