100 Things #1

The "100 favorite scenes" option is currently winning the poll by a landslide on both LJ and DW, so that is what you will get. :D

This is going to be a HIGHLY personal and probably quite embarrassingly id-centric assortment of scenes from books, movies, TV, comics, etc -- recently fanned-on stuff, and things from my childhood too. (Though I'm sure recent stuff will dominate because that's what's currently in my head.) There will, needless to say, be spoilers for EVERYTHING, but I will clearly label them on the cut tag in as non-spoilery a way as possible. *g* I will also try to label any potentially triggery or non-worksafe material.

I suppose that I will begin with a scene that proves it isn't going to be ALL h/c, twist endings and near-death experiences (although I suspect most of it will be *g*).

"My first girlfriend turned into the moon."
"That's rough, buddy."

... THIS WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER STOP BEING FUNNY.

The Boiling Rock episodes weren't my absolute favorites in the series (though they're definitely up there in the top, oh, ten or fifteen) but that little exchange is probably my single favorite dialogue exchange in all of A:TLA.

(Though, I must admit, it has some competition from 1x14's "Can your 'science' explain why it rains?" "YES, YES IT CAN!" As I'm married to a scientist -- computer science, but still -- that one gets quoted around our house a lot. ... Actually, come to think of it, I'm pretty sure that most of my favorite dialogue in A:TLA involves Sokka one way or another.)

ETA: Oh look, Youtube has that one too! (Ignore the annoying little pop-up in the middle - Youtube, sigh.)

How was Sokka so awesome? Seriously.

Oh man, I love those two scenes so much.

Also, you can turn those annoying pop-ups off! For individual videos, click the little red speech balloon. You can also go into your account settings, go to the playback section, and uncheck "show annotations" and never see them again.

Ahaha, those were great moments. Sokka is my favorite character, so yeah.

I'm not sure what's funnier, Sokka's earnest blunt way of putting it, or Zuko utterly failing at sympathy,

YES, YES IT CAN! is what made my dad fall in love with this show. He got got me hooked on Star Wars (in utero) it's only fair I return the favor. We both heroically attempted to read My Immortal but we had to stop when I laughed myself into an asthma attack.

I have so many favorite moments from that series, and the Maiko shipper in me insists the bast is either Mai saving the jerk who dumped her, or Zuko's please don't kill me smile at the end, but there's also "Sokka style, learn it!" Azula shooting at Zuko first in The Chase, or Wang and Sapphire Fire. Also, just all of "The Storm" and "City of Walls and Secrets" and Momo falling asleep in Appa's pawprint, and and and...

In this particular second, my favorite scene is "I'm not Toph, I am MELONLORD! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!" but it will change momentarily. But yes, I agree, every freaking moment is gold. This show, is... My god, I have never been quite so in love with anything.

Except Megan Whalen Turner's Queen's Thief books.

I agree, generally when I get writing fannish, it's a case of "I want different" instead of "I want more" but I will make an exception for ATLA.
