Arctic Light

Looking at my AO3 dashboard, has it really been two and a half months since I've posted anything fanficcish? No wonder it feels like forever.

I hereby announce my intention to write a thousand words per day each of original fiction and fanfic from here to the end of the year. Even on busy days. Even on days when I'm tired and distracted. If I actually manage to do this, I'll blow away last year's writing totals and maybe get a little closer to establishing a writing habit (as opposed to the binge-writing followed by exhausted collapse that I normally do).

Can I do it? I don't know, but I'm kind of jazzed at the idea.

My Yuletart is away! (And I'm really proud of it! Of course, it'll be a month and a half before I can admit that it's mine ...)

State of the Ficathons:

1. sheppard_hc secret santa (SGA, 3000-wd minimum, due Dec. 21-Jan. 3)
Status: Started story; plan to return to it when I finish my sga_santa (since the deadline is earlier on that one).

2. sga_santa (SGA, 1000-wd minimum, due Dec. 10)
Status: Story is plotted and about half written.

3. yuletart (due Nov. 23)
Status: DONE!

4. Yuletide (1000-wd minimum, due Dec. 20)
Status: Got my assignment, and I think I know what I want to write!

5. family_haven (1000-wd minimum, due Feb. 14)
Status: Got my assignment, thinking about what I want to write ...

Also planning to write for:
- smallfandomfest (prompt claiming opens on Nov. 23)
- hc_bingo (I can do at least one or two more fills this year, right?)
- sga_genficathon next year ...
- and astridv's fic; I haven't forgotten!

And then there is NaNoWriMo, of course (currently stuck in Plot Hell).

I just got done re-reading Blood Rites and man, I am on a Dresden Files high right now. :D There is just no point whatsoever in writing fanfic for this series; it's all right there in the text. I mean, this book alone is an h/c lover's paradise, and it's just one book out of twelve! (Admittedly one of the more button-pushing ones, but nearly every book has at least one scene that totally sends me into raptures of squee. I am not sure how he does it, but Butcher plays my little fangirl heart like a finely tuned instrument. :D) Also: box of puppies! ^_^

For my own reference - current list of fannish commitments (which hasn't changed much since last check-in):

1. spook_me (A:tLA, due Oct. 26)
Status: Did some research. Wrote a little. I'd, um, better work on this, if I'm going to finish it at all before the deadline. (It's a low-pressure ficathon, no penalty for dropping out, but I liked both the ideas I had, and I wanted to finish at least one of them, darn it.)

2. sheppard_hc secret santa (SGA, 3000-wd minimum, due Dec. 21-Jan. 3)
Status: Brainstorming. Did some research. Stuck.

3. sga_santa (SGA, 1000-wd minimum, due Dec. 10)
Status: Got my assignment; thinking about it.

ETA: Heeeeee ... looking back through my old Dresden Files posts, I just came across my very first conversation with Naye in the comments to a (spoilery) Book 8 post from 2007. Um, wow, it's only been three years? Wow.

Also have about a half-dozen different pieces of meta and book reviews I've been noodling with, but haven't gotten around to writing. Doing another long chaptered fic would be awesome -- I haven't posted something chapter-by-chapter since I got my AO3 account, and I want to give it a try! -- but I'll probably have to save that for next year (maybe!).
