So I've been banging my head against
les342's Carson/Rodney ficathon story for weeks now. Wrote the beginning but could not get it to work, could not get it to work ... so yesterday, I finally scrapped that idea (it's a good start and I can use it for something else, but it just wasn't working for this story) and started fresh. It went swimmingly. I decided to use an idea that I've been wanting to write for a while -- a sequel to my earlier story "Running on Empty", in which Sheppard makes good on his promise (or threat) to teach Rodney wilderness survival. And they've brought Carson and Teyla along for the ride ...
I've always found Carson a very difficult character to write, both because his "voice" is hard for me, and because I know zilch about medical stuff. I usually muddle through by being as vague as possible, but with Carson around, especially when I'm doing a Carson POV, that just doesn't work. So far, though, it's running very smoothly. I wrote about 7500 words yesterday. I have enough other things to do today that I doubt if I'll get much done on it, but I'm hoping to bang out a few more pages this evening. Working title: "Wilderness Survival 101"
"Ghost in the Machine" is not abandoned, but is temporarily shelved while I work on this one. I'm hoping that writing this story will help get me past my block on "Ghost".
