2 Biggles, 4 Murderbot, 1 Babylon 5

They're definitely not all whump or even h/c; some of them are just using the day's prompt for a general ficlet. Because it's my journal and I say so.

Turns out writing short h/c snippets for Babylon 5 is extraordinarily hard (at least with the characters I want to write about) due to

spoilers.

the incredibly short window of everyone being happy and getting along before it all goes to hell. You pretty much either need 20K of fixit beforehand, or somehow fit all your little hurt/comfort tropes into like 4 months of canon. (Obviously this pertains primarily to Londo.)

I also did sign up for Out of Order Flash. (Nominations are still open if the thing you want isn't in there.) I currently have no matches; I don't suppose any Biggles people (or Murderbot! or B5!) are around to be ~tempted~.

In other news, it is definitely early fall. Leaves are turning gold and falling! The air smells like autumn! I love this time of year best of all times of year, and yet .... help.

I wrote another Murderbot 1x10 episode missing scene.

A few notes on the fic (spoilery for both fic and episode):

• I kept tweaking Gura's final line to Murderbot, so it might be a bit different if you read an earlier version. (I felt like I needed to soften it from how it originally was. They are hard to write! Especially keeping their edge when they're so soft in the final scene.)

• We know Murderbot has trouble figuring out what it's feeling, but I also think it's very plausible that Gurathin has the same problem, if not as badly. He's repressed so much for so long. Asking himself to identify exactly what emotions he's feeling is something that some therapist or other taught him to do.

• This is not necessary context for the fic and it's entirely subject to interpretation, but what I was thinking when it wrote it is that Murderbot using "its" for augmented humans in its last line of dialogue to Gurathin is actually MB doing roughly the same thing (except more emotionally positive) that Gurathin is doing in the episode of the show where he's arguing with Mensah and calls it "he" and then corrects himself to "it." It's over-identifying and doesn't even realize that it's doing so; I mean, it's worried about Gurathin, obviously, and that's why it's here, but there's also a certain amount of "we are the same kind of creature" going on here, even though it doesn't realize it's relating to him on that level. It knows that he might have damaged himself with the data overload because it also knows that it might damage itself in a similar way, and he has much less storage to handle it. And it's just kind of subconsciously being concerned about him as it might be concerned about a fellow construct, or itself, having taken damage. Of course neither of them parses all of that consciously.

In other events, Terrible Temperature Troubles Flash Exchange revealed gifts tonight! I got two absolutely delightful gifts - An Official Complaint Against the Universe (Babylon 5, Vir & Londo, hypothermia and h/c) and Consequences of Cold (Biggles, Biggles/EvS, snuggling when chilled). I loved them!

And finally,

hurtcomfortex author reveals were tonight. I wrote Sleepover (MASH, 1700 words, Margaret POV) with huddling for warmth and light comfort after nightmares.

While we're waiting for h/c-ex to reveal in July, this just showed up on EAD ...

So this is actually NOT the fic of Ysande's from Closer Flash that I asked permission to write a follow-up to, but I was just kind of noodling on fic this morning and ended up writing a snippet following on from

ysande's A Hard Bargain and specifically one of the comments (under the cut).

I'm posting it here rather than there so

ysande knows there's no obligation to comment on it!

Just Married is revealed and I wrote a thing!

For Luck and For Love (Biggles/EvS + team, mature, 2800 wds)
A not-quite-legal wedding, with beauty and with love.

This was a treat, written at the very last minute (actually posted post-reveals). I wanted to write something to make up for all my recent defaults, and the "secret wedding" prompt called to me. (I also liked the idea of trying to write marriage fic in the canon world, as much as I adored the homophobia-free AU ones and have written my own, but I liked the challenge of keeping it canon-compliant, and it also felt very them to me to do something like this.)

I still haven't decided whether to sign up for

ficinabox. So tempting! But do I really want to sign up to write 10K of fic during a summer when I defaulted on multiple exchanges due to Inability to Word? It seems like a bad idea!

But you know what I am currently eyeing:

....And Your Blorbos Closer flash exchange - forced proximity (one bed, handcuffed together, etc), 300 word minimum, signups close Sept. 2, 1-week writing period. I am TEMPTE. I may be brainstorming tags as we speak. (Signups open on Friday.)
