State of Whumptober:

2 Biggles, 4 Murderbot, 1 Babylon 5

They're definitely not all whump or even h/c; some of them are just using the day's prompt for a general ficlet. Because it's my journal and I say so.

Turns out writing short h/c snippets for Babylon 5 is extraordinarily hard (at least with the characters I want to write about) due to

spoilers.

the incredibly short window of everyone being happy and getting along before it all goes to hell. You pretty much either need 20K of fixit beforehand, or somehow fit all your little hurt/comfort tropes into like 4 months of canon. (Obviously this pertains primarily to Londo.)

I also did sign up for Out of Order Flash. (Nominations are still open if the thing you want isn't in there.) I currently have no matches; I don't suppose any Biggles people (or Murderbot! or B5!) are around to be ~tempted~.

In other news, it is definitely early fall. Leaves are turning gold and falling! The air smells like autumn! I love this time of year best of all times of year, and yet .... help.

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. I was noticing as I peruse prompts just how much easier it is to write the more generic prompts (something like "concussion" or "found family") for a set of characters in which there's more timeline wiggle room. (Obviously this has not stopped me from writing them in various tropey h/c situations before, but it does require working a little harder to justify it.)

I never seriously considered writing B5 fic for this reason, and I admire anyone who can do it! Even more broadly, both character and plot developments all feel so tightly locked that it's hard to do more than a missing scene here or there!

Yeah, for any of the characters really ... you're either locked into an extremely tight canon plot arc, or you're post-canon when everyone's gone their separate ways even if they managed to avoid being dead or alien-parasite-possessed. Great for watching, not so great for trying to write fic! (I think post-canon AUs or "everyone met up and had an adventure" fic is probably the easiest, logistically speaking, but it's still a challenge!)

That is an impressive start for Whumptober when it's still August! And writing the prompt however you feel like it is the proper spirit of a prompt exchange :-D

I'm having a good time! It's matched my mood lately (which is not really geared towards working on longer stuff).

Quick question: do you connect your lj name to your name on your published books? Is it okay when I'm talking about your cozy mysteries in my journal to say that you wrote them? I don't want to cross any streams you don't want crossed.

I don't mind them being connected at all - I do openly connect them by talking about my books on my DW in unlocked posts. But thank you for asking first! <3

(Also I meant to say, thank you for the recs for my Julie books! I saw the author name on your post and was like, oh, that's the same surname I use for my penname! Indeed it was. xD I'm really glad you enjoyed them!)
