Dragaera reread: Hawk
Finally getting back to my Dragaera reread, which was originally rereading happening in late 2025. My reread is all over the place - I'm not doing every book - but the last one I read was Vallista in December, and now I'm rereading Hawk, and I just got to A Thing.
Vlad is talking to Daymar.
Is that by any chance the demon memories?? That we don't find out about until Tsalmoth, published like a decade later? AAAAAAAA!
(I did notice that the house from Vallista is also mentioned, which is chronologically a bit earlier, but the book itself hadn't been published yet. I read them in reverse order when I was reading the series for the first time, though - IIRC I read Vallista then Hawk, which at the time were the latest two books out.)
FWIW I haven't finished rereading Hawk, so maybe this is brought up again later in reference to something else completely.
Edit: originally had noted this as spoilers for Lyorn and changed it to Tsalmoth, as I had apparently forgotten which book that happened in ...
Edit2: Another spoiler for Hawk: I forgot that this book heavily implied there's something deeply powerful, weird, and eldritch about Tukko, Sethra's manservant. (When Vlad touches him and Lady Teldra reacts to him.) A disguised god, maybe?
Vlad is talking to Daymar.
[Vlad] "What's odd?"
[Daymar] "Your head -- there was a wall in it."
"A wall? How could there be -- oh right. Yeah, I don't want to talk about it."
"All right."
I replaced the amulet. We stepped onto the street, and I found myself staring at my left palm.
[Vlad to Loiosh] "I've remembered and forgotten this once before."
"Brought back memories, did he, Boss?"
"Yeah."
"Now probably isn't the time."
"Right."
