sholio: Autumn leaves (Autumn-leaves 1)
I've noticed in the past that I basically suck at doing DVD commentaries on my own fic, for a rather specific reason: when I'm writing, I tend to approach it from a "narrate what's happening" standpoint (I kind of "see" or "feel" the story happening, I guess), and afterwards, that's what I remember -- the things that happened in the story, not my own thought process that went into it. In general, the main times that I remember a good bit of the creative process were on the stories where things got borked enough that I had to do a lot of unborking, like the White Collar horse-farm AU where I had to block out the ending using toys and rewrite it multiple times, because I had SO FLIPPING MANY CHARACTERS running around that I kept losing track of where they were.

But I've seen a couple people doing a variation of DVD-meme commentary where they ask for a specific scene, and then talk about what's happening in the scene -- what's going on in the characters' heads, what non-viewpoint characters are up to, what might happen in the parts of the scene that aren't shown. And that, I think I could do!

So - give me a scene from one of my stories, and also let me know if there's anything specific that you want to know ("what was Neal really up to", "why did [x] do [y]", "what happens after the last scene in this story") or I can just talk about the scene in general, probably from more of an in-universe than a meta perspective (but it depends on the fic). If it's one that I really don't have ANY thoughts on, I'll have you pick another one ...

My fanfic on AO3.

It doesn't just have to be fanfic - feel free to ask about a scene from my original work, if you'd prefer! (A non-comprehensive list of my non-fanfic stuff: Hunter's Moon - Sun-Cutter - Freebird - Homespun)
sholio: Neal from White Collar, hand on hat (WhiteCollar-Neal hat)
One of the squares I got on my h/c bingo card, that I want to write for the Psychic Neal AU, is "culture shock". My general idea here is that, having grown up in a lab, he missed out on major chunks of what constitutes a "normal" childhood for people in the Western world, so there are big gaps in his education. It definitely wasn't 24/7 abuse -- the lab kids could watch cartoons and read books, and their friendlier caretakers probably did things like give them birthday parties and whatnot. Plus, they can read minds. Still, they never met other children or experienced "normal" family life, and mind-reading only helps when you correctly interpret what you're looking at.

So what I'm trying to figure out is something that Neal plausibly wouldn't know, or wouldn't think about -- something that he might stumble over. For the most part, he's good at picking up things from context (also: psychic), so it probably wouldn't be something obvious. I'm trying to think of little things where he'd miss other people's cues, or not quite realize what they're talking about and respond inappropriately ... that kind of thing.

Ideas?
sholio: Peter from White Collar, with gun (WhiteCollar-Peter with gun)
After I finished "season one" of the Psychic Neal AU, I halfassedly wrote more sequel bits, since I already have a vague mental outline for "season two". And then I didn't work on it for a long while, for Reasons. But last night I was idly thinking about it, and I figured out something that had been giving me problems, and all of a sudden I found myself wanting to work on it again.

Namely, I figured out what Keller did to Peter, specifically.

Is it appropriate to cut for spoilers for a fanfic that everyone read a year ago? )
sholio: Peter & Neal from White Collar with a soft lighting filter (WhiteCollar-Peter Neal soft filter)
And this is a wrap - the last story in the series ... well, completed stories, anyway. As mentioned earlier, I've started another one, but I'm not sure when/if it'll be finished, so for now, this is where I'm leaving them.

Title: Fragments
Fandom: White Collar
Word Count: 5900
Rating: PG-13
Summary: For my h/c bingo "imprisonment" square. All that's left is picking up the pieces.
Cross-posted: http://archiveofourown.org/works/513946
Note: Huge thanks, as always, to [livejournal.com profile] soteriophobe for all her help. Everything in this series about Neal's brain chemistry that makes sense is basically due to her wonderful suggestions and research help. Everything that doesn't make sense is me. *g*

Fragments (Psychic Neal #6) )
sholio: Neal from White Collar, hand on hat (WhiteCollar-Neal hat)
First of all, a request: I've received some comments on past installments that are awfully negative about canon!Peter. Please don't do this. I'm trying not to sound too whiny here, but I've cut back hugely on my fandom participation to avoid character negativity (of anyone, not just Peter -- I don't want to hear about how awful Neal or Sara or anybody else is, either, although admittedly it's Peter that I'm most protective of), and I'd rather not have it follow me home to my own journal. Er, obviously when it comes to canon bad guys (this story includes Keller, after all), all bets are off, but please keep in mind that I really adore the cast on the show, and don't make me sad!

As noted at the end of the previous installment, the series takes a darker turn here. Please note the warnings.

Title: Original Sin
Fandom: White Collar
Word Count: 30,000
Rating: R
Trigger Warnings: Emotional abuse/manipulation, descriptions of torture, and discussion of/references to child abuse (emotional, physical and sexual). If you would like more detail about any of these warnings, please let me know and I will be happy to provide whatever information you need.
Summary: Another installment in the Psychic!Neal universe, for my "Stockholm Syndrome" h/c bingo square. A postcard arrives in the mail, bringing back friends and enemies from Neal's past.
Cross-posted: http://archiveofourown.org/works/511984
Note: This story utilizes various events from "Bottlenecked" and "Out of the Box", as well as other season one episodes. I'm assuming that everyone reading this knows what already happened in canon, so a lot of the peripheral details aren't fully explained where they overlap heavily with canonical events. And thank you as always to [livejournal.com profile] soteriophobe for beta, handholding and squeeleading!

Original Sin (Psychic Neal #5) )
sholio: Peter and Neal from White Collar - Neal's hand on Peter's shoulder (WhiteCollar-Neal hand on Peter's shoulde)

Fandom: White Collar
Word Count: 1900
Pairing: Gen
Summary: "Vital Signs" in the Psychic!Neal universe.

Heart to Heart (Psychic Neal #4) )
sholio: Elizabeth from White Collar, looking down, soft colored lights (WhiteCollar-Elizabeth colors)
Title: Leap of Faith
Fandom: White Collar
Word Count: 7400
Pairing: Gen with a bit of background Peter/El
Summary: The next fic in the Psychic!Neal AU, taking place after A Handful of Lightning and Familiar Sting. Neal seeks a cure for his headaches, and deals with issues from his past.
Cross-posted: http://archiveofourown.org/works/508261
Notes: For h/c bingo square "trust issues". Thank you once again to [livejournal.com profile] soteriophobe for further invaluable handholding, cheering, feedback, and research assistance! This story overlaps somewhat with some of the events from the pilot, though the timelines don't exactly match up due to Peter and Neal's partnership having started three years earlier in this 'verse.

Leap of Faith (Psychic Neal #3) )
sholio: Neal from White Collar looking down (WhiteCollar-Neal sidelight)
This is the story that kicked off ALL the sequels. When I finished the first story, that's where I was going to stop. However, I realized that I had a "headaches" square on my h/c bingo card, and since I'd already stated in the previous story that Neal gets headaches from the damper device, I figured it was too good an opportunity to pass up. And then I just kept finding new h/c bingo squares to write for. *g*

Title: Familiar Sting
Fandom: White Collar
Pairing: background Peter/El (mostly gen)
Word Count: 5500
Summary: The next story in the Psychic Neal 'verse, sequel to A Handful of Lightning. This one is for the headaches/migraines square on my h/c bingo card.
Cross-posted: http://archiveofourown.org/works/506492
Notes: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] soteriophobe, once again, for her excellent and useful suggestions, cheering and handholding!

Familiar Sting (Psychic Neal #2) )
sholio: a cup of cocoa and autumn leaves (Autumn-cocoa)
One of the comments that I got on the story pointed out that there was something rather important that I didn't specify (it's one of those situations where this information was all in my head, but I never said it in the story). Normally I wouldn't feel the need to specifically point out something that I'd changed in a story (I'd just quietly fix it) but since this is actually plot related, if you've already read the story, see under the cut:

This is what I added: )

Anyway, I wanted to mention this for those of you who'd already read the story, so that you didn't miss it. :)
sholio: Neal from White Collar, hand on hat (WhiteCollar-Neal hat)
I am so thrilled beyond measure to finally be able to post this. \o/ There are five sequels, each for a different square on my [community profile] hc_bingo card, which I will post at the rate of about one a day.

Title: A Handful of Lightning
Characters: Peter & Neal mostly (with Elizabeth, Jones, Diana, Bancroft, various OCs)
Pairings: gen with very background canon pairings (Peter/El, Neal/Kate)
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 14,500
Spoilers: AU; vague spoilers for "Forging Bonds" and early season one, plus a small spoiler for something revealed about Peter's past in season three
Warnings: some graphic violence; mention of harm to children (note: one of the sequels contains a trigger warning for discussion of child abuse; this will be clearly noted when I post it)
Summary: "He's some kind of secret government experiment?" Peter and his team have been trying to catch the elusive con artist Neal Caffrey for years. But Peter's search for Neal leads him to something else: a startling revelation about Neal's true nature. Written for the White Collar Big Bang and the "experiments by evil scientists" prompt on my h/c bingo card. AU.
Crossposted: On AO3; on LJ in 2 parts: Part 1, Part 2
Author's Note: I owe a HUGE thanks to [livejournal.com profile] soteriophobe, who helped me immensely with the story and basically has been the best beta/cheerleader a fangirl could ask for, as well as keeping me from EXPLODING by providing me regular doses of feedback and squee while I was working on the stories in this 'verse and couldn't post them yet. Not to mention being full of useful ideas when I got stuck, and helping me with research on the sciencey parts. Thank you so much; I couldn't have done it without you. :)
