My gift haul (and a rec)
Dec. 4th, 2023 07:55 pmMy gift haul from Fic in a Box are unsurprisingly all Biggles, and all wonderful. I can't figure out what order to do, so let's go alphabetical.
Breaking Down Prison Walls (gen, EvS + team, 6800 wds)
Erich receives a troubling call from Raymond. Thoroughly satisfying and lovely post-Hatchet mission fic in which EvS must help rescue a missing Biggles.
Courting (1600 wds, Biggles/EvS plus team)
Raymond would like to recruit 'Lothar Boelke' for intelligence work. However, there's an unexpected side effect of his scheme. Someone took me up on my "mission report" request!! Hilarious and sweet.
In Translation (gen, Algy + Biggles + EvS, 2300 wds)
Algy decides to go over Biggles's head. This will have no unintended consequences whatsoever. A+++ Algy; absolutely delightful post-Hatchet fic.
What Is This Love? (Biggles/EvS + team, 2500 wds)
Raymond-ordered vacation might just be what's needed here. Content warning: aftermath of sexual assault. Very sweet and believable recovering-from-trauma fic.
When He's Down (gen, Biggles + EvS, 6700 wds)
Von Stalhein had been watching the hotel all night, and knew several things. During the enemy years, Erich finds himself dealing with a sick Biggles. Sharply characterized and wonderful.

And now shockingly something that isn't Biggles, and isn't a gift for me ... a stray rec from FIAB.
AITA: Six Daughters?!? (Vorkosigan saga, 3700 wds)
My (M40s) mother (F76) just told me that she intends to have six (!) daughters with my deceased father and co-parent with my father's secret male lover (M40s). AITA for thinking that there should have been discussion with me about this first?
You absolutely must know canon for this to work - it's Miles reacting to the events of Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen as only Miles can or would - and I don't even remember enough canon to get every one of the in-jokes, but just, OMG. 😂 (Ivan's comments are pure gold.)
