sholio: sun on winter trees (SGA-watch2)
Fic rec: Ring Out, Wild Bells

I couldn't rec this at [livejournal.com profile] stargategenrec (where I do most of my recs these days) because, well, it's not gen. At all. In fact, it's not at ALL what I normally read -- it's slash (McShep, of course), AU, crackfic. So what's good about it? It's hilarious and frikkin' brilliant, that's what! Rodney's down-and-out, living in his car, when he inherits a mysterious mansion that comes with Ronon living in the basement, crazy yet sexy gun-toting next-door neighbor Sheppard, Teyla as the nice lady down the street who brings over food ... The Rodney-Ronon interaction (prickly and sweet with a fantastic twist near the end) is what really sold me on the story, but the whole thing is just a warm, fuzzy, funny delight from start to finish. I loved how the author found appropriate ways to work in many of the minor SGA characters as well as the major ones (Caldwell's cameo is my personal favorite -- it's suitable and hysterical at the same time), and how well the "family" vibe from the series worked in a non-Stargate setting. This story is all that an AU should be.
