A crackfic slash rec, of all things
Fic rec: Ring Out, Wild Bells

stargategenrec (where I do most of my recs these days) because, well, it's not gen. At all. In fact, it's not at ALL what I normally read -- it's slash (McShep, of course), AU, crackfic. So what's good about it? It's hilarious and frikkin' brilliant, that's what! Rodney's down-and-out, living in his car, when he inherits a mysterious mansion that comes with Ronon living in the basement, crazy yet sexy gun-toting next-door neighbor Sheppard, Teyla as the nice lady down the street who brings over food ... The Rodney-Ronon interaction (prickly and sweet with a fantastic twist near the end) is what really sold me on the story, but the whole thing is just a warm, fuzzy, funny delight from start to finish. I loved how the author found appropriate ways to work in many of the minor SGA characters as well as the major ones (Caldwell's cameo is my personal favorite -- it's suitable and hysterical at the same time), and how well the "family" vibe from the series worked in a non-Stargate setting. This story is all that an AU should be.

Feedback
I know this comment doesn't have anything to do with your rec, although I did bookmark the story, but I'm not a member of fanfiction.net which means I can't seem to leave you feedback, and I wanted to tell you how much I loved Running on Empty. Fabulous stuff, every minute. And I viewed the whole thing as pre-slash, natch. LOL.
Anyhoo, it was a great story, kept me fully engaged, great characterizations, well written. Two thumbs up!
Re: Feedback
I always feel a little inadequate at responding to reviews because I can't really think how to say "Thank you, I loved reading your response" in a way that doesn't sound shallow and trite! But I do, truly, appreciate the feedback.
