New direction
Mar. 18th, 2006 09:01 amOkay ... I've decided to stop doing fic recs. There are so many other sites out there that do a much better, more thorough job than I do, and I feel like I should rec everything I read and liked (which means I'm behind, oh, about thirty or forty Stargate Atlantis fics), and I don't update frequently enough to make people want to come back and read it, and on top of that, I feel horribly guilty for all the ones I *SHOULD* rec, with
xparrot and her fantastic anime fanfic topping the list.
Really, the only reason why I was doing it was to get myself to write in this journal, and since I haven't been anyway ... blech. So basically, this is not a recs journal anymore. But I'll still mention ones I like, when the mood strikes me.
Right now, my usual anime fandoms are taking a backseat because I am thoroughly, totally, pathetically hooked on Stargate Atlantis and its wonderful cast of characters. I had no idea I'd fall so hard for this show, especially since the first episode didn't really grab me and I had given up on it for a while after that. But ... the wonderful snarking! The banter! And of course the neat little moments when they save each other's lives, and then pretend like it didn't mean anything, 'cuz they're macho that way.
There is a lot of frustration in this particular fandom for me, because I'm an h/c addict and there is quite a lot of h in the show but not a whole lot of the c ... I mean, there's so much *potential*, but not a whole lot of actual follow-through. Luckily, as with SG1 fandom, there are metric tons of fics out there that celebrate the friendship dynamic in much greater detail than the show ever does. And every once in a while the show will surprise me and tip me over the edge into pure squee (well, quiet squee, because I'm watching it with my husband). The ofttimes subtleness and rareness of it just gives it that much more impact. You have to *look* to find it. But it's there.
P.S. And I made me a McKay icon -- wee!
