Raven song
Apr. 7th, 2020 09:27 pmI've occasionally described this to people, but I've never been able to find a recording online of ravens making their songbird noise - a liquid, musical sound completely unlike the "caw" that most people associate with them. I don't know if this is not a noise that ravens outside the Arctic make, but you hear it regularly here, and we FINALLY came across a raven doing it when one of us had a chance to film it while we were out walking the dog in the driveway today. Orion was able to get a good recording of it.
You might have to turn the sound up to hear it clearly.
This was one of two or three ravens (I never managed to get an accurate count) who were very excited about something that we eventually figured out was a torn-apart hornet's nest, its pieces scattered across a wide area. We don't know if they were eating it or just playing with it.
