Artemis Fowl and other random things
Jan. 25th, 2011 04:31 pm1. AHAHAHAHA ... good thing Joe Flanigan's not getting typecast or anything: http://stargate-sg1-solutions.com/blog/2011/01/trailer-for-the-other-side-with-joe-flanigan/ (As seen everywhere on my flist.) And we now have independent, i.e. non-Stargate confirmation that the entire multiverse DOES look like British Columbia! ETA: Or Ireland, as half my flist has now pointed out to me. *g* Which, in a way, proves my point, I guess ...
2. I am in the middle of book 6 of Artemis Fowl and still very hooked. These books are such tasty little morsels! I also, er, bought the boxed set of the first 3 books when I went to the bookstore yesterday to get the ones the library didn't have. (What? It was cheap ...) And I love the covers! The library ones just have plain covers, but the covers for (I assume) the reprinted versions are great; they're very sci-fi and kind of comic-book-ish and exactly the aesthetic that I like. (It does bother me that Holly is described in the books as being brown-skinned and she's got clearly Caucasian skin tones on the covers, which is very disconcerting though I can't say I'm surprised. They really nailed Artemis, though, and Holly's general badassery.) You can see them on Amazon: book 1, book 2, book 3. (And while I'm at it, the boxed set! It's cheap! And very pretty! And MINE, ALL MIIIIINE. :D)
But anyway, these books! I need to make a happy flaily post about them, because they are SO much fun. I love Holly to bits, and d'awwww, Artemis has won my heart utterly with an endearing combination of ultra-competence in certain areas and complete adorkableness at everything else:
... OH ARTEMIS. You do try. <3
3. My
white_lotus fic has been sent off to the mods, YAY. I just have my
family_haven to go and then NO MORE FICATHONS for me for a while. I'm watching all the spring ficathons gearing up all over my flist, a bit wistfully, but I am determined not to sign up for anything else right now. (Though yes, Genficathon is still a go; I'll open signups in a week or two.)

"I imagine you're in great pain," he said. "It's to be expected with such a laceration." Bedside manner was not one of Artemis's strong suits. "You will have a rather large scar, but then looks are not really important to you."
Mulch squinted at Artemis through a narrowed eye. "Are you trying to be funny? Oh my God, you're not. That was actually the nicest thing you could think of to say."
... OH ARTEMIS. You do try. <3
