My French ... er, sucks, to be blunt**; I took it -- rather apathetically -- in high school, but all I remember now are random bits of vocabulary. So I'm trying to write a single line in French in something which appears to be a Highlander story (*hides*) and I could really use some help -- the line is "A cup of tea for the lady, please?" (to a waiter)

Is "Une tasse de thé pour la dame, s'il vous plaît?" correct? Is it grammatical? (One of the many, many things I can't remember about French is whether you can drop verbs and such, the way that you can in English, and still be comprehensible ...) Is that what one would actually say in a situation like that, or would it sound more natural to a native speaker if it was phrased in a different way?

** Just to give you an idea, the last time I tried to speak French in public was at a Tim Horton's in Quebec, a few years ago, and the person who was attempting to take my order actually went and located a co-worker who spoke English so that she didn't have to deal with my laborious butchering of her language. It was very sad. Ironically, one of the things I was trying to order was a cup of tea.

ETA: I have an answer; thank you very much! :)

By way of trying to make myself slow down, I've been stopping to write a few things on each episode ... not sure how long this will keep up (or how much of my flist is willing to put up with it *g*) but, well. Here?

Also ... I'm still running very close to the edge of my icon slots on DW, but ... I've been posting so much on the show lately that I think I need more icons (of people other than Duncan) for variety's sake. I've seen people use some very pretty icons in my comments ... are they gankable? A non-spoilery Methos icon would be particularly nice, or one of the women, or something sort of generic for the show ... I would love to add about 50 more Duncan icons ([personal profile] scrollgirl offered so many pretty ones when I asked before!), but I have no ROOM!

ETA: [personal profile] scrollgirl has hooked me up with lots of icons ... again! Thank you! :)

I'm passing along this one from my sister, for something she's writing. She asked me this question, and I didn't know, but I said I could ask on my LJ (DW), so here I am!

I'll just quote her:

"I know that with many voice mail systems you can access them from any phone. I'm assuming this is true for cell voice mail as well. So if you're feeling paranoid, and have ditched your phone, you can still check your voice mail. You're afraid people are tracking your calls, and they can certainly see who has called YOU (even with no phone, the voice mail box would still exist). But could they track your calls INTO your mailbox to check your messages? I'm assuming yes, but I don't really know how that works."

So ... what do you guys think? My experience with cell phones is kind of limited, but I'm not actually sure if you can check it from another phone like you can with an answering machine. But can you? Or could the government or a suitably well-connected extra-governmental entity do it?
