Ohhh...! *lightbulb*

Browsing sga_santa, I noticed one of the mods saying something that made me realize I may have been doing Genficathon the STUPID WAY all these years. Does anyone on my flist have enough experience with moderated comms to tell me if this would work?

I'm thinking that I ought to be able to set the comm to moderated status (so that posts have to be approved in order to appear), and then troubleshoot, code and post each entry as I get it; then all I have to do when it's time to make them go live is release a couple from the moderation queue each day. All the work is already done.

Is there some really obvious problem that I'm overlooking here, or would this totally work?

I'm not positive, but you might have to juggle two different users for that to work, because if you are a moderator, your own posts automatically are posted without waiting for review. If there's a way around that, I want to know it, because I've wanted to the do the same thing several times.

I think there's a limited number of posts that can go in the moderation queue, and also, you might want to investigate whether it's possible for the same poster to have multiple posts in the queue at the same time. I'm not really sure, but I think I've heard about these two things being an issue.

I believe that unless it's a paid community, each person can only have one post in queue. I don't know if that will be an issue for you, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works. And I think that it's impossible to edit posts that are in queue. But you-the-moderator can review and delete and ask for them to be reposted. (Or repost yourself with your non-moderator account.)

Dreamwidth recently introduced a feature that allows mods and maintainers to change the settings so that their posts enter the queue rather than being posted immediately. Maybe LJ can be persuaded to do something similar? That would solve one issue. Wouldn't help with the only-one-post-per-person issue, though, which is probably the bigger issue. Maybe a month or two of paid community time would do it? I'm not sure if there's a limit on how many posts one person can have in the queue in a paid community.
