More random HL thoughts up to the end of Season 3
Oh, Richie, don't leave again. >_< But once again, I love the slow, inexorable pace of change in this show, and the continuity! They don't just abandon or drop stuff; things that happen in one episode bleed over into the next, and nothing stays the same.
Duncan's rental space full of all his stuff ... OHHHHH! That makes so much sense! I'd vaguely wondered how he keeps all his old stuff while he moves around like he does.
And then the aptly-named finale ...
Methos is still a Watcher! hahahahaha *dies*. Joe, when it comes to consorting with Immortals, you are the worst Watcher EVER. But also the most awesome. (Also, good one, Methos! Because, when you work for a TOP SECRET ORGANIZATION, neatly compiling its information all in one place is an AWESOME idea. Though I do find it rather interesting -- and, yes, adorable -- that Methos's approach to immortality is rather the same as Duncan's: change, adapt, learn ALL the things!)
Also, Amanda? ROCK ON. Okay, yes, freeing Kalas and then failing to immediately kill him was another high-caliber mistake (sneak up behind him and lop off his head, Amanda, you dink ... or is that against their code?) but she really tried to clean up the mess she'd made, and did a pretty credible job of un-damsel-in-distressing herself.
Also ... Joe, wow. I wondered how far he'd go to protect the Watchers' secret. That was dark. *loves*
"He didn't save her. He saved you." *squeakyflail*
Moving on to PART DEUX! First off, AMANDA LIVED, SQUEEEEE! (I was quite worried at a few points.)
You know, in the end, Kalas's Ultimate Revenge(TM) seemed kind of ... anticlimactic. After all the threatening of Duncan's friends and so forth, I was hoping to get a little bit more "friends in mortal peril" out of the whole thing! But we got good scenes with pretty much everybody, so I am a happy little fangirl anyway.
Also, Eiffel Tower as giant Quickening lightning rod .... HAHAHAHA. That is about two parts awesome to one part ridiculous. But I literally laughed out loud in delight when I realized what Duncan's plan was. Good thing no one in Paris noticed the giant electrical storm that fried all the computers, though, eh?

I love Amanda. :) Because of her, I tend to have a soft spot for morally challenged sexy thief characters, like Vala, or Bella on SPN. But Amanda was the original.

I can't believe I'm this far along already! Good thing for me that Netflix is down this afternoon -- no temptation. *g*

Yes, exactly! That's what makes them so cool. And I just love that they went digital, because really, sooner or later it had to happen. Methos knows where it's at.
"He didn't save her. He saved you." *squeakyflail*
That scene was just perfect in every way. Oh Joe. Oh Duncan. OH METHOS, getting right to the heart of it. ♥ ♥ ♥

But, yeah - I think that is one of the things that appeals to me most about both characters. Heck, it appeals to me in real life, too; one of the most attractive traits I can think of is open-mindedness, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to new ways of thinking and doing things. Both Methos and Duncan have that in spades.
And the other quality they both have is the ability to go on making connections to people, even after losing people over and over and over again. Methos ... my god, 5000 years, it defies belief. And yet he's still making friends and getting involved.
Oh Joe. Oh Duncan. OH METHOS
OH YES. ♥

And yes! So many of the immortals-of-the-week seem to be stuck in the past, but not Duncan or Methos. ♥
Also: OMG YAY for you writing Highlander! (Is there Methos in it? *one-track mind*)

Love Methos and Joe working together to try to do damage control. Methos and Joe amused me doing the Watcher thing together even after Joe KNOWS what/who Methos really is...yeah, he really is the WORST Watcher EVER! Observe and record, but do not interfere...OOPS! But, but him and Duncan are so cute together and then when Methos joins in, well, really, by that point, what is Joe gonna do? ^_-
Also, those eps, along with the great Eiffel Tower quickening also has the fantastic dancing on the tower scene, which...again, those two scenes were the first thing to occur to me while I'm standing on the Eiffel Tower, first at night and later during the day...Hee, traveling with my fangirl goggles on is always amusing ^_- Paris kinda turned into one big HL pilgrimage...^_-

Observe and record, but do not interfere...OOPS!
HAHAHAHA yeah. And another of my bulletproof kinks is duty and friendship coming into conflict ... THIS SHOW PUSHES MY BUTTONS SO HARD.
Oh, and the tango scene on the Eiffel Tower - yeah! That was so gorgeous and sweet and fun! Gawd, I want to vid this show, but the video quality on Netflix just isn't good enough to make it worth it. *eyes DVDs on Amazon*

And of course, that's the episode where they drink champagne at the end isn't it? I would love it just for that scene alone.
You already quited the line "He saved you." but it's so awesome -- the understanding from Methos, the way MacLeod looks ahead and does it for Joe, even though it makes his life harder.
ETA: I love that Joe and Methos work together.
ETA2: And oh! oh! I LOVED the Eiffel Tower dancing scene. "Because you love it!" Indeed, Duncan.
Methos remaining a Watcher made me squee so hard way back when. Still in charge of finding himself, and he makes sure it never happens! XD

The Eiffel Tower dance sequence! So awesome! Man, I want to vid this show LIKE BURNING. But I need better source than Netflix. *eyes DVDs*
It's really awesome to watch her change through the course of the series just through sheer exposure to MacLeod.
hahahaha I know. I love characters like that -- the ones who make other people into better people just by knowing them.
Still in charge of finding himself, and he makes sure it never happens! XD
THAT IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST THING EVER. Methos, you rock so hard.

Then in 2000, I was bedridden for 2 months and it was being reshown on Sci Fy. I bought all the eps on VHS, rebought them on DVD and now buying Blu-Ray. I'm hooked.

Yeah, for me, Highlander aired during a time in my life when I wasn't watching much TV at all -- around the time I went off to college. I missed a bunch of the big fannish shows of that era and still haven't seen more than a few episodes here and there (X-Files, DS9, Babylon 5, etc). I'm not sure why I picked Highlander as the one to try -- I guess I'd seen a few vids and I was curious. But oh, wow, I'm falling for it SO HARD. :D I think I might end up buying the DVDs even though I'm getting the eps on Netflix.

The Finale 2parter was the first time I saw Highlander (and dubbed into German, no less, which is an atrocity when it comes to Methos). I knew Forever Knight, and had read some FK/HL crossovers, so I thought I'd catch the show to see what it was about (I'd only seen the movie, so I knew the idea of immortals, but not those specific characters).
And I was pretty bored and only watching a bit while doing other stuff, and then Methos showed up, and I was "hello? Who is that?", and *BAM*.
I was really lucky, Highlander was apparently dubbed into German rather quickly, so I got into the Methos and Methos/Duncan parts of fandom just as they took off. I'm so jealous, tho, that you get to watch it unspoiled (I had to wait at least a week or two after each Methos episode until I managed to get my hands on a vhs tape, and by then the mailing lists and new stories had spoiled me).
Highlander was the only fandom I actually went to conventions for. Gnnnn, I remember getting to pre-watch an episode featuring Methos at one convention...
btw, I used to save a lot of stories, if you ever run into broken links for the really old stuff, I might have it lying around.

Anyway, I'm delighted to hear from more HL fans! :D I'm absolutely loving the show, and I'm so happy to have more people to discuss it with! (Though I can't really get in-depth into discussions 'til I've seen more of it, on account of spoilers ...)

Thank you! :D I will be fishing for stories a little later on, so I definitely may take you up on that!
