Ficathon story #8 (and new WIP): The Light of a Fading Sun

Tazmy and Kodiak beta'd the first few chapters of this a loooong time ago, but I figure it's far enough along now to start posting.

This isn't entirely a ficathon story, but I realized that one of the last remaining ficathon prompts would fit beautifully as a plot development in this story, so rather than writing it as its own story, I decided to combine them into one.

Title: The Light of a Fading Sun
Rating: A fairly strong T/PG13
Spoilers/Warnings: This is an AU version of events diverging around the Siege. It contains heavy plot spoilers through Season 3's "Sunday". This is also somewhat darker/heavier than what I normally write, though not without its friendship moments.
Summary: Perhaps the only thing worse than blowing up 5/6 of a solar system is not blowing it up at all. Following the Siege, the characters drift apart ... but in their AU universe, the events on Doranda will have far-reaching and unexpected consequences. And theirs may not be the only universe affected.

As usual with my WIPs, it'll be posted in chapters on ff.net and then posted on my website when complete. Here's the link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3407293/1/

If you would like to know what the ficathon prompt is that I'm using, you can click under the cut to see it. It's a plot spoiler, though. The prompt that I'm using is: "A hostage situation on Atlantis involving John and Rodney."

Thank you!

In all honesty, I avoid most post-Trinity stories as well -- although in my case, it's mainly because I don't like how either Rodney or John are characterized in them. And I hope that this one doesn't read as too much of a "victim Rodney" story because I'm really trying hard NOT to do that; if anything, he's the victim of himself.
