I have a present for penguin!fic fans

(All, um, none? of you on my friend list? But seriously, this is cute.)

Okay ... somehow, I have actually managed to make it through two years in this fandom without reading penguin!fic. Until tonight. Because one such story was rec'd on [livejournal.com profile] sgastoryfinders, and it was by an author I like, and I was all, "Oh hell," and clicked on it, and it was so freakin' cute, and there goes my penguin-free streak in fandom. So, if you're a John/Rodney pairing person, and you haven't read [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan's Antarctic Drift, go forth and read. SO. DAMN. CUTE.

And this got me to scan in a photo from a recent issue of National Geographic. I swear to God I have not tampered with this photo in any way. This is EXACTLY how it ran in the August 2007 issue of National Geographic.

Yes, you read that right. Rodney the emperor penguin.

And I can actually SEE the scene, with Rodney!penguin all tranquilized and limp, and the hapless biologist trying to radio-collar him while furious John!penguin attacks his ankles with his useless penguin beak. And of course, Rodney thinks the radio collar is really cool, and tries to figure out how it works, and John's all bristling and glowering at human photographers taking pictures of them from the other side of the ice floe ....

You can sign up for just one day, or three, or however many you'd like, including of course the entire 14. Or you could post one story in 14 parts, or rec 14 stories, or knit 14 things (or three or seven... you get the drift). You don't even have to sign up, necessarily - just do your think and post the link in the link-collecting post for the respective day and later they'll post a round-up. At least that's how it's supposed to work this year.

I'm going for 14 with 10 already done, but January's going to be busy-busy, so we'll see. :>

Also, your icon. Ouch. *g*

Thank you very much! I've been trying to figure that one out for awhile ...

Also, your icon. Ouch.

I am a total sucker for dead Rodneys ... as long as they come back to life again. *g*

Yeah, me too. That's why I like your stuff so much. It's very gratifying in that respective (with both Rodney and John). *g* That one story where Rodney beams drowned!John into the Wraith dart? Awesome.

eeeee! Thank you! I didn't know you had read all that much of mine; thank you! (And, yes, total shameless love for the dead!Rodney and dead!John. "Doppelganger" sent me into paroxysms of helpless squee.)

Uh, actually I think I've read all your stuff, I'm just horrible at leaving comments. *blushes*

And so true! I don't even know how often I watched the last ten minutes of Doppelganger, because Rodney dead and John's face and then when he's just about to give up Rodney appears and announces boldly that he's not dead and askdjfsldfjlasdjflkjl! *flails*

Heh, well, I think "But Never The Nights" is the only one of yours that I'd commented on prior to the penguin one (and that was mostly to comment that I'm a total doofus who doesn't understand the concept of WIPs), so I am well and truly acquainted with the non-commenting. *g* But I've liked pretty much everything of yours that I've read, so I'm very flattered!

And a;lkdsfja;ldskfjasdk;fkasdf;sdf;;;;; is pretty much the only response that I can squeeze out of my brain for the last ten minutes or so of Doppelganger. Up to that point, I thought Tao of Rodney was the height of squee for this series. I was very happy to be proven wrong. Total fanfic, that episode. And the good sort, too!
