STILL. FROZEN. You know it's a bad sign when tomorrow's forecast says "Temperatures rising to -20."

I just walked down to the mailbox on the highway (3/4 mile each way). Fingers cold. Legs cold. Everything cold.

Let's have some more non-gen recs.

Women's Work - SGA, Miko/Cadman, not rated (probably PG)
This is the story this week at [livejournal.com profile] sga_talk -- and I really loved it; it's not really a "pairing" story so much as a little slice of Atlantis life that happens to include the pairing, if that makes any sense. (And honestly, I think you could make a good case for this one being gen with UST.) I loved the feeling that we're getting a series of glimpses into the lives of the people who aren't onscreen very much.

Come and Join the Dance - SGA, Rodney/Teyla, NC-17
Rodney/Teyla is the only het pairing for SGA that I get all mushy about. Which is really funny, because I can't actually imagine it working out in canon. At all. Besides not having anything whatsoever in common, she'd kill him. But I love this story anyway, and I might've even rec'd it here before. It's incredibly sweet and has lovely h/c and a nice role for the team, too.

I was going to rec some Sheppard/McKay here, but going through my bookmarks, there's actually a bunch of them I've read lately and I'm not really sure how to pick. Besides, I think that most of the ones I liked have been rec'd all over the place already anyway.

Yeah, ditto on the McKay/Sheppard. I have a vague desire to someday write a McKay/Sheppard story as fucked up as they'd inevitably become if they did try, just because no one else is doing it. I love the pairing, but believable? Not really, and not just in terms of their canon sexuality.

I think the original-fiction feeling to [livejournal.com profile] mirabile_dictu's stories is actually one of the things I really like about them, if that makes any sense at all. They're AU not in the sense of "This is the story where Rodney is an alcoholic herpetologist and John is a red-backed gecko", but more because there's a thread that runs through them that makes them feel different, and I actually like that.

Sure, that makes sense, and I didn't at all mean to imply that fanfic reading like original fic is necessarily a bad thing, because it can be done effectively. I think it is a matter of taste -- m_d's brand of different-feeling-ness (behold my awesome diction) just doesn't happen to work for me, some of the time.

Also, if you ever do write that "realistic" McKay/Sheppard, you will have one reader for sure. :)

Ah yes, that does make sense! And there are some authors I can't read for similar reasons -- their version of SGA just doesn't feel right to me.
