Does anyone know ...

... if you have to be signed up for Yuletide to write treats or to pick up pinch hits?

I seem to recall that the first year I did it, you couldn't do either of those things if you weren't an official participant, but I also have the vague recollection that this may have changed, so I'm curious if anyone knows. I guess I could ask over there, but I don't really want to bother the mods if my flist knows!

ETA: Answered! It appears that you don't have to be officially signed up to do either of these. \o/

You have always been able to do pinch hits if you weren't a participant, but when it was on the old site, you had to be either signed up for the exchange or have been manually added as a pinch hitter in order to upload treats, due to the way the system was set up. Since moving to AO3, they were able to configure it so that anyone can post treats as long as you have an AO3 account, which makes me incredibly happy because I don't really feel like participating in the exchange, but am excited about writing treats!

Yeah, for me it's one of the best changes since moving to AO3. XD I have spent a lot of time yesterday and today reading yuletide letters and while the vaaaaaaast majority of requests are not fandoms I know at all, or stuff I read/watched too long ago to feel I could write, there's actually quite a bit I am excited about. If I can translate that excitement into actual writing, I wouldn't be surprised if I wrote several treats this year.
