As something of an antidote to my last post - Baby owls in coffee cups. You're welcome.

I have an idea for my sexual-extortion h/c bingo story! The problem is ... it's an epic-length sci-fi AU, in which Adler is the most powerful man in a futuristic metropolis, and he blackmails Elizabeth into marrying him by having Peter thrown into a sort of debt-slavery involving personality-controlling implants. Then jewel thief Neal (who's part of a team of thieves that also includes Kate, Mozzie and Keller) breaks into the mile-high, high-tech tower where Adler is keeping Elizabeth, intending to rob it, but instead she asks Neal and his crew to help free her and Peter.

... I'm at 80K words on an original novel right now; I do not need a novel-length AU plotbunny eating my brain! Help!

(1) I read your previous post (have seen that particular bit of news in different places these last few days) and can think of nothing to say, other than that sometimes I truly despair of human nature.

(2) That AU sounds like tremendous fun.

(3) I think my favourite thing about the baby owls in coffee cups may actually be the second picture, with the guy reading the book with the owls perched on his knees. His expression is so earnest! He looks like he's thinking, 'Man, I got these owls on my knees! I gotta read up on this stuff!'

this happens to me all the time. maybe you can write just the climactic scene? when they meet elizabeth and she asks for their help? without doing any of the setup or the worldbuilding? then in a week or so take another look at the draft and put in the BARE MINIMUM of world building fact?

Well, I was basically planning on starting it where Neal breaks into the tower anyway. (Or may have already written 3000 words of that.) She has to fill him in anyway; there's no point in writing the earlier stuff since it's just going to be recapped in-universe. Unfortunately there's like 50,000 words of EPIC POWER STRUGGLE AND SLAVE REVOLUTION to come afterwards. *g*

*grins* Thank you! I've actually written a little of it already - I don't know how far it'll go (and I don't think I want to try to get it done for the bingo square, especially with the other things I have going on right now) but I really like the idea.
