White Collar 3x14
That episode was made of love and squee and pure distilled awesome. ♥ ♥ ♥
It was a nonstop barrage of adorable character moments! THE WHOLE THING! I want to talk about my favorite bits, but my favorite bits were EVERYTHING. They had everyone in this episode, in almost every combination, and everyone got to do something cute or cool or awesome. We had Peter and Neal, Neal and Diana, Peter and Elizabeth, Peter and Mozzie, Neal and June, Neal and Sara. ALL THE THINGS! ♥
I pretty much grinned stupidly throughout this whole episode. The actual FBI plot was kind of meh, but WHO CARES when we have Neal and Diana bonding, and Peter conspiring with Mozzie to make a gift for Elizabeth, and Neal saying what is almost certainly the first part of "But I'm family!" when he's trying to convince Peter to introduce him to El's parents. ♥ ♥ ♥
I know that Sara is not a popular character, but I really do love her and I thought they struck exactly the right balance in this episode. It wasn't over the top, it left the door open to romance without being about romance, and I love that when she snarks at Neal, he doesn't just stand there and take it, but hits back twice as hard. I love that she and Neal really do have a good rapport and a good working relationship, and they showed that, rather than just telling and showing something else.
Similarly with Diana's engagement -- ♥ ♥ ♥ I loved that they didn't get all movie-of-the-week about it, but were very matter-of-fact and in character -- it was just another little subplot in an episode that was full of them, but felt very present and real in spite of being mostly in the background. She's engaged, and she's acting just like Diana would act about getting engaged, and there were HUGS and Neal wants to throw her a bachelor party and ALL THE LOVE.
And then there were El's parents and Peter and Mozzie and El hating her ugly little doll and EVERYONE EEEEEEEE.
Also, I really love that Kramer is in the antagonist role not because he's a bad person, but because he's a good cop. He's actually right! (At least from a legal/procedural standpoint.) Of course, we the audience know that there are extenuating circumstances in a lot of these cases, and in most of them, it's Peter and Diana's affection for Neal that made them bend the rules. But it's finally come back to bite them, and I am WILD to see what happens next.
I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH. ♥ ♥ ♥
I suspect a lot of the fandom may not have liked this episode -- I know a lot of people don't like Sara (particularly with Neal); a lot of people don't like Kramer either; and if you're mainly in it for the Neal and Peter interaction, they were separated for most of the episode. But I would like to stay in a squee space, please. I don't mind talking analytically about the episode (hey, I'll admit that the writing was weak in certain areas, and I had a few nitpicks too), but if you really hated it, or parts of it, please respect my squee high. Because right now I am full of love and squee and happy. ♥
