White Collar 3x13
I think that this episode is a classic example of why I really don't want to know too much about episodes beforehand. I'd heard about this one, very vaguely, way back during the first half of season three -- that there would be an Elizabeth and Mozzie episode in the back half of the season in which they'd investigate a crime together -- and I think I'd built it up a little too much in my head ... among other things, I was expecting, or rather, hoping for more of Elizabeth and Mozzie dealing with the aftermath of the Keller thing than we actually got.
But it was a cute, fun caper episode, and while there wasn't anything that really knocked my socks off with awesome, I enjoyed it and the more I reflect on it, the more I like it.
Particular favorite bits:
- Elizabeth and Mozzie playing FBI agent. Heeeee! And El saving Mozzie with the (somewhat random) stockpot that just happened to be lying about the strip club. I'm not sure why that was there! Awesome scene though.
- Neal giving El a crash course in lock picking. And her delighted/satisfied expression when the tumblers clicked into place! ♥ (I am possibly alone in the fandom in that I don't think El and Neal are friends, exactly -- they like each other, but I think for the most part she relates to him as her husband's friend, and he relates to her as his friend's wife. This was one of very few episodes in which they've had a chance to interact without Peter in the room, and that was kind of neat.)
- Peter's story about tracking down the chipmunk who'd been stealing Satchmo's kibble. ♥ ♥ ♥ That's ... soooo Peter. I hope for El's sake that they find something useful and law-enforcementy for him to do after he retires from the FBI, because otherwise he is going to drive everyone around him insane.
- Mozzie's symbiosis with the Burkes is hilarious and completely adorable. I love that he'll drop everything to go help Elizabeth -- and that Peter has gone from being so nervous about leaving El alone with him in season one that he needed to assign Jones as a chaperone, to considering Mozzie a perfectly legitimate guardian when El might be in danger from her neighbor. Awww. ♥ (Also loved his little arm-squeeze to Neal after their conversation about sending Mozzie over. Awww! Boys!) And he doesn't even bat an eye at Mozzie making himself scarce after the action. Peter and Neal's friendship is, of course, the heart of the show, but there is something really adorable about the way that Mozzie has insinuated himself into the Burkes' lives (and the way they've gotten into his heart, even if he'll only admit it under a certain amount of duress), because it's so serendipitous and accidental, and, I'm sure, a complete surprise to all parties involved.
- Neal in a baseball cap. ♥
- Neal and Mozzie's conversation in the car. I love that this is so much in character for both of them -- Mozzie thinks Neal will be delighted at the prospect of seeing an end to his FBI stakeouts, but Neal is so (guardedly) wistful - "Sometimes Peter will tell a story about a bust or an old case. Those nights are all right." AWWWWW. (Also: SOMEONE NEEDS TO WRITE THAT.)
- That last bit with the Burkes, and El wearing the trench coat and being all "sexy lady FBI agent" in the bedroom, was seriously adorable. (Although Peter calling her Mrs. Suit is just weird. XD)
And we got some interesting canon stuff in this episode:
- I really loved getting a better look at the Burkes' neighborhood in this episode, particularly seeing how one can access the backs of the townhouses. (Yes, I had wondered about that.) And now we have a more specific location for the Burkes -- Cobble Hill! Not that I know enough about Brooklyn to have a clue what that means. But Google Maps can find it. And it makes it easier to calculate rough travel times between Peter's house and various other canon locations.
- In season one, the Burkes were almost certainly a one-car household -- because Peter had to take the subway when El had the car. But they definitely have two cars now.
- Speaking of cars ... whose car were Neal and Mozzie doing their stakeout in? It wasn't Peter's or El's. Something Mozzie came up with from somewhere? (It is a Ford, though! Because no one on this show would be caught dead in anything else! ;p)

HEE! So true!
This episode gave me hearts in my eyes. Everyone was ADORABLE!

It's total headcanon for me that Peter can't turn off the law-enforcement part of his brain, regardless of whether he's off duty, on vacation, retired, etc. And apparently canon as well!
