So we watched the new episode of Doctor Who!

FUN FUN FUN. I love River Song so much that even capslock cannot express it, so I'm just stuck with hearts: ♥ ♥ ♥. AND ALSO RORY; oh Rory, how are you so adorable, and he gets most of the good lines too. ("And in fairness, the universe did blow up...") It was really interesting seeing Matt Smith's Doctor again with my earlier conversation with xparrot fresh in my head (regarding immortals/Immortals and Matt Smith's young/old persona) because yeah, I can see it a lot more clearly than I did before, especially in that chilling and awesome scene where he refuses to go to the rendezvous until they tell him what's going on because he was not born yesterday, and, also, he's 900 years old AND YOU DON'T F*** WITH THE TIME LORD. He's still not my favorite of the Doctors, but I like him a lot more than I thought I would at first.

I was not terribly impressed with Amy's "The Doctor is dead, why bother trying anymore" glooom, which reminded me why I wasn't all that crazy about early-season-five Amy: the way the Doctor is the center of her whole universe and she teeters on the brink of folding like a wet napkin without him. But then she made up for it by being all calm and brave and awesome in the White House bathroom scene. (Because, seriously, if I had just seen what she just saw? I am going to be a flailing ball of PANIC at that point.)

Moffat still does some of the very best horror out there -- my favorite kind of horror, that's not really gory and in-your-face, but, instead, DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES creepy-scary. How do you fight a monster when you can't remember it exists as soon as you turn away from it? And yet, it's funny too; I'm still laughing every time they're all "Nope, there's nothing out there!" even though you feel so sorry for the poor things too ...

(Someone needs to write a note on their hand - "Monsters are here!" - though I can hardly blame anyone for not thinking of that yet, considering the circumstances...!)

hahaha, that's EXACTLY what I said to the husband, sometime around the point where River popped up from the catacombs and is all, "Nope, no monsters here!" Come on, guys, write a note on your hand; haven't any of you ever seen Memento? XD Though, like you said, under the circumstances, it's understandable that they're just going moment-to-moment and not doing a stellar job of thinking on their feet.

It was really interesting to watch this after we'd been talking about Eleven's visible portrayal of his age and alienness ... I don't think I really saw it all that much last season, but I see it a lot more now. I don't know if it's because of that conversation and various other meta that I've read since I saw the previous season (I watched it all in a batch, so I didn't have much time to process) or just that it was front-and-center in that episode, but yeah ... I do see it, and I also kinda see where you were coming from with the Peter Wingfield/Methos comparison, too.

Not to mention at least with River, I believe that was the the first time she saw the aliens - so it's not like she'd know she was going to forget them! It's not usually the type of thing one would need to take a note about! I believe Amy's the only one who's seen them enough to realize what's going on, and she did think to snap a photo - not her fault that she's failed to look at her phone since ^^;

I think it was naye who mentioned the PW/Methos feeling, and yeah, I think it's apt - they're playing quite different chars, but certain elements in common are there. (And I do think the Doctor and Methos would get along - actually I drabbled that before... ^^)

Well, true - it's not really their fault, since most of them have only seen the creatures once, and Amy did try with the cell phone. But I hope they come up with some better strategies next episode! (The neat thing about DW is that it's well-written enough that they probably will -- I have a lot of confidence in the writers to deliver something good, and not just have the characters run around flailing ...)
