Highlander, naturally!

Am now up to 2x04 (The Darkness) 2x05 (Eye For An Eye).

Oh, Tessa. ;_; I knew it was probably coming, and I even guessed from the first half of the episode that this might be the one where it would happen, but I wasn't ready for no more Tessa episodes ever again! I loved their sweet little family so much. And the past few episodes have had so many wonderful Richie and Tessa moments. *weeps* At least this way, I've gotten it over with and can get on with the rest of the season without fearing for Tessa's life in every episode BECAUSE THE WORST HAS ALREADY HAPPENED AAAAUGH.

But wow, wow, I did NOT see that coming with Richie. 0.o Well, okay, I had speculated about it as I was watching the past few eps; I'd been wondering if immortals could sense the presence of other immortals before their immortality was "activated", and thought it would be interesting if one of the human characters at some point got killed and turned out to be immortal. But I had no idea the show actually would actually go there, especially so soon! Richie is immortal, omfg. *flails*

And also: Jim Byrnes! SqueeSqueeSQUEEEE! ♥ I am really loving this season; this show has really started to explore its internal mythology, and it's gotten GOOD. (Or else I've built up an immunity to its cheese. One or the other. I did laugh my head off at Duncan's NOOOOO! reaction to Darius's death; his grief at Tessa's death was much more subtle and understated -- and moving.)

But I have a feeling it's going to be pretty depressing for the next few eps. TESSA! *makes sad wibbling noises*

Edit: DUNCAN TEACHING RICHIE TO SWORDFIGHT IS MY NEW FAVORITE THING. :DDDDDDD

Duncan's NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO is the awesomest thing ever! Oh man. Crying with laughter, which isn't reason they're intending you to cry, but still, HAW!

You didn't know about Richie! Heeee~! I was wondering if you were spoiled for that or not. Awesome. And yeah, Duncan mentoring Richie in Immortal-ing is great.

Didn't say so before to avoid spoilers, but I actually started watching HL with the Methos eps (and the only eps I saw realtime were the last season) - I never saw the first couple of seasons until a few years ago, when Gnine and I went and watched the whole show. So I only knew of Tessa through flashbacks - I was surprised by how much I loved her, even knowing she was doomed. Their family really was adorable :(

Have you met Fitz yet? :)

And gets funner! :D

Wow, I'm impressed that you weren't spoiled about Richie! :)

Tessa's death...yeah. :(

That's pretty impressive that you didn't know about Richie's immortality. I remember being excited by it. I missed their little family, though. It was one of the best things about the early seasons and lots of fans ran with it in fanfic. I look forward to hearing more of your reactions. They make me want to go back and re-watch.

Wow, your total lack of spoilering for HL is IMPRESSIVE!

As neechan said, we came into the show knowing a lot and then it took us forever to actually get around to watching the earlier seasons and then it was just weird watching when Richie's NOT an immortal and liking Tessa even though the whole we're going NOOOooo, don't WANNA like her cause we know how THAT ends...

And oh, the cheese, the wonderful wonderful cheese. ^_^ That scream especially. I usually love my passionate screams (probably more than is actually healthy ^_-) but yeeeah, that one is just LOL.

Though the Darius thing is actually quite sad in that the reason they wrote the character out was because the actor was dying...

YAY Duncan training Richie, always SO CUTE!

...and now I have an inkling to go and rewatch some eps...mainly ones you haven't gotten to cause well, METHOS, but..yeah...

Dang...I used to have a Methos icon but I deleted it at some point, my bad :-p

I actually bought a subscription to Netflix just so I can rewatch HL. I am now on season 3 (well, I rewatched every Methos ep first... lol) and I'm loving it anew. It's an awesome show and the characters are so lovable! I hope you keep us updated on your progress :)

For the longest time this was THE show for me. I've seen it so many times it's not funny, but I haven't seen it in almost a decade now, so I had to watch it again. :-)

Joe Dawson rocks my socks by the way!

I don't remember the early seasons very well, but your posts make me want to rewatch. :)

I HAVE NO IDEA!

And you didn't even know about Richie! How the hell did you manage that?!

Actually it's much more fun that way I think, so avoid avoid avoid!!!!

You are coming up on some really good seasons, too.

LOL! How could you have avoided the fanish osmosis?? Even I knew that Richie was Immortal and Tessa dies - and I hardly watched the show! LOL! It's like the 'Darth Vader is Luke's Father' sort of thing..... It's the THING you knew about the show if someone asked you to describe it. :)

So, I'm glad you were not spoiled.

I love remembering this show through your posts. :)

Yes, the show has gotten better and will keep going better. :) I'm already looking forward to your reaction to some episodes. :)

Looking back it was so clear that Richie becomes an Immortal (at least for me). I think in the first episode or so Tessa hints at it/asks Duncan (or the other way round?) about it in a very subtle way and I think one of the reasons that Tessa and Duncan let Richie stay was because he is an "unborn" Immortal.

Regarding the "no more Tessa" episodes - don't despair! :)

They can definetly sense a pre-immortal, Duncan is not the only one who can.

Yep :)

I don't think it's ever answered if every immortal can sense this, but certainly others than Duncan can.

Jumping in here, but it's actually hinted at in the very first episode. After Richie watches what's-his-face and Duncan fight, and when Connor is talking to Duncan before Duncan runs off, Connor says something about how the boy will need watching, and Duncan replies that he will. So not only did Duncan know, Connor did too.

Wandered over here from [livejournal.com profile] trobadora. I love Duncan teaching Richie! Cause he's actually teaching him. Unlike most training montages, you could actually learn about sword fighting from that.

I fenced, but only for a little bit and never well. But I have had conversations with one of those "live steel" reenactors at a Ren Faire, and according to him, the sword play in Highlander is generally pretty good. It's showy, yes, but they're actually doing real sword work, and they use different styles when appropriate, even.

[identity profile] ivy03.livejournal.com 2011-03-23 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Adrian Paul was clearly cast in large part for his athleticism. Richie on the other hand... At the start of season two, the actor couldn't do sword play at all. Neither could the guest star in "Eye for an Eye," which is why their swordfight is on cat walks. It's to disguise the fact that neither has any idea what they're doing. But Adrian does real katas and things. So you can rest easy about that!

[identity profile] pat-t.livejournal.com 2011-03-23 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Adrian was already into martial arts, etc. I think that was one of the reasons they picked him. He was also a dancer and choreographer as well as a model when he was younger. They won't let him do Dancing With the Stars because of his past dance history (he told us in LA at the last con). He is very athletic and very good at what he does.
