Highlander, naturally!
Am now up to 2x04 (The Darkness) 2x05 (Eye For An Eye).
Oh, Tessa. ;_; I knew it was probably coming, and I even guessed from the first half of the episode that this might be the one where it would happen, but I wasn't ready for no more Tessa episodes ever again! I loved their sweet little family so much. And the past few episodes have had so many wonderful Richie and Tessa moments. *weeps* At least this way, I've gotten it over with and can get on with the rest of the season without fearing for Tessa's life in every episode BECAUSE THE WORST HAS ALREADY HAPPENED AAAAUGH.
But wow, wow, I did NOT see that coming with Richie. 0.o Well, okay, I had speculated about it as I was watching the past few eps; I'd been wondering if immortals could sense the presence of other immortals before their immortality was "activated", and thought it would be interesting if one of the human characters at some point got killed and turned out to be immortal. But I had no idea the show actually would actually go there, especially so soon! Richie is immortal, omfg. *flails*
And also: Jim Byrnes! SqueeSqueeSQUEEEE! ♥ I am really loving this season; this show has really started to explore its internal mythology, and it's gotten GOOD. (Or else I've built up an immunity to its cheese. One or the other. I did laugh my head off at Duncan's NOOOOO! reaction to Darius's death; his grief at Tessa's death was much more subtle and understated -- and moving.)
But I have a feeling it's going to be pretty depressing for the next few eps. TESSA! *makes sad wibbling noises*
Edit: DUNCAN TEACHING RICHIE TO SWORDFIGHT IS MY NEW FAVORITE THING. :DDDDDDD

You didn't know about Richie! Heeee~! I was wondering if you were spoiled for that or not. Awesome. And yeah, Duncan mentoring Richie in Immortal-ing is great.
Didn't say so before to avoid spoilers, but I actually started watching HL with the Methos eps (and the only eps I saw realtime were the last season) - I never saw the first couple of seasons until a few years ago, when Gnine and I went and watched the whole show. So I only knew of Tessa through flashbacks - I was surprised by how much I loved her, even knowing she was doomed. Their family really was adorable :(

Crying with laughter, which isn't reason they're intending you to cry, but still, HAW!
heeeeeeee~! Poor Duncan. We LAUGH at your pain. Because your pain is so very hammy. (Ham and cheese! Oh, speaking of actors with lots of ham, the episode with Geraint Wyn Davies as the serial killer with multiple personalities -- HAHAHAHAHA. SO MUCH HAMMING OH MY GOD. What makes it even funnier is that a number of years later, the same actor was on "Slings & Arrows", playing ... an actor who is a total ham.)
And yeah, everyone seems surprised that I didn't know about Richie! But I didn't! I really am about as close to completely unspoiled for this show as it is possible to be, aside from knowing about Methos later. (Well, there is actually another spoiler I stumbled across years ago, but at this point I'm not sure if it's something that will actually happen or me remembering wrong ...)

Tessa's death...yeah. :(

And Tessa ... yeah ... I figured something like that was going to happen, but it's still hard.

Their little family was definitely the best thing about season one, and I really loved watching them together. *wibbles* Still, I really appreciate that the show is dealing with her death and not just sweeping it under the rug.

As neechan said, we came into the show knowing a lot and then it took us forever to actually get around to watching the earlier seasons and then it was just weird watching when Richie's NOT an immortal and liking Tessa even though the whole we're going NOOOooo, don't WANNA like her cause we know how THAT ends...
And oh, the cheese, the wonderful wonderful cheese. ^_^ That scream especially. I usually love my passionate screams (probably more than is actually healthy ^_-) but yeeeah, that one is just LOL.
Though the Darius thing is actually quite sad in that the reason they wrote the character out was because the actor was dying...
YAY Duncan training Richie, always SO CUTE!
...and now I have an inkling to go and rewatch some eps...mainly ones you haven't gotten to cause well, METHOS, but..yeah...
Dang...I used to have a Methos icon but I deleted it at some point, my bad :-p

Ohhh ... that's awful! But I guess they did it respectfully, and wrote the character out rather than just having him vanish. Actually, come to think of it, Darius's funeral is the only time we've ever seen a funeral for one of Duncan's (many) dead friends. Perhaps that's why.
But anyway, yes, CHEEEEESE. But very fun cheese. EVERYONE seems to be surprised that I'd managed to remain unspoiled for the Richie thing. *g* But most of my exposure to HL is in multifandom vids, which are pretty much context-free. I'd picked up a few unavoidable things (METHOS) but actually, yet another thing keeping me unspoiled is that so many of the male characters in Highlander looked alike to me that I'd confused them with each other! I realized, for example, that several scenes in one vid I'd thought were Methos were actually Darius, not that they actually look all that much alike, but the show is pretty dark and if you're just seeing fast clips with no context ... yeah.
I think you'd have to have a heart of stone not to like Tessa. *g* She was just so sweet. Oh, Duncan.

And you didn't even know about Richie! How the hell did you manage that?!

You are coming up on some really good seasons, too.

So, I'm glad you were not spoiled.

Yes, the show has gotten better and will keep going better. :) I'm already looking forward to your reaction to some episodes. :)
Looking back it was so clear that Richie becomes an Immortal (at least for me). I think in the first episode or so Tessa hints at it/asks Duncan (or the other way round?) about it in a very subtle way and I think one of the reasons that Tessa and Duncan let Richie stay was because he is an "unborn" Immortal.
Regarding the "no more Tessa" episodes - don't despair! :)

Do you think so? I'm not so sure -- one thing I'd been wondering about is whether Immortals can sense the presence of others before their immortality kicks in, and I really don't think they can. Though it is true that Duncan acted remarkably unsurprised ... I don't know if he's just that imperturbable, or if he did have some inkling.

I don't think it's ever answered if every immortal can sense this, but certainly others than Duncan can.

I fenced, but only for a little bit and never well. But I have had conversations with one of those "live steel" reenactors at a Ren Faire, and according to him, the sword play in Highlander is generally pretty good. It's showy, yes, but they're actually doing real sword work, and they use different styles when appropriate, even.

And oh, cool - that's neat to hear about the swordfighting! I know nothing about fencing except what I've read in books or researched for stuff I was writing (and no RL experience at all), but I find it immensely fun to watch, and it really looks like the actors, especially Adrian Paul, seem to be giving it their all. I'm especially impressed with the way Duncan handles his sword, because it gives a strong impression of a guy who is very much in tune with his sword and aware of where it is at all times -- the way he flips it up along his arm or just holds it ... very neat!

And Adrian Paul is so very fun to watch, doing, well, everything. :D He's so graceful and just so good at it; there are some bits where he does something in a fight that's so incredibly neat (flipping up his sword with his foot; jumping from the top of a flight of stairs to the bottom while swinging his sword) that I have to skip back and watch it over again.
