Coupla belated things

The reveals are out on [livejournal.com profile] yuletart! I did this ink and watercolor painting for Jean M. Auel's Earth's Children books.

Also, since the [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa reveals are up, I can link to the fantastic second fic that was written for me as a pinch hitter (being anon, I couldn't admit that Pinch Hitter #11 was me *g*). It's A Little Glory by [personal profile] vain_glorious, and it's a short and wonderfully fun team fic with lots of banter and Rodney being all hero-y despite an epic case of foot-in-mouth disease. It's lovely! Go read it if you haven't already. :)

I'm looking forward to the [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking reveals being out, because I wrote quite a bit of fic for it, and that'll be the last of my holiday exchange stuff.

I'll open signups for [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon in a month or so. Last year the signups were rather truncated, so I'll leave them open quite a bit longer this time.

It's been ages since I read any of the Jean M. Auel books (the early ones) but that is a very beautiful piece and does remind me of what I remember! You do some awesome watercolors!

Oooh, that is lovely. ♥

I really used to love the Auel novels - well, the parts of them that weren't painfully purple sex scenes. *g* And I don't care how Sue-ish it was, I could have read several novels' worth more.

Yeah, I skipped all of the sex scenes too, the first time. I was really fascinated by the stone-age survival and herbal medicine stuff myself, from what I remember.

Yeah, so very much agreed about competent characters. And I never thought about it, but that's a great point about "process" stories - I adore those too, I just never really had a name for them!

I've reread the books a couple times over the years, and while these days I giggle at the sillier stuff, some parts still manage to hit my kinks right on target. *g*

And a new book? Seriously? Wow, I completely managed to miss that! ... I may have to buy that.

That's beautiful!

I really loved Auel's books as a kid, too. Read them several times, skipped all the sex bits - that barely even registered - and loved the sense of wonder and the view of an entirely different world. One of my first attempts at fanfiction (long before I even knew of the word) was for these books. XD

Then I grew up and realized the books weren't all that good, and also full of porn. Meh. But your painting brings back that feeling of wow, this... ♥

Exactly! With characters being competent and managing all sorts of things, and all the details that makes the world feel so real and so different from anything in my experience. Hee.

I haven't reread them in many years either. I never read the fifth book when that came out, because by then I realized the books weren't all that good. And apparently Ayla and Jondalar's daughter is named Jonayla, which makes me squirm. o_O

I actually think part of it is that the early books are genuinely better than the latter ones. At least I hope so? Because tiny!me loved the first two to bits, but even then I was frustrated by the the characters not talking to each other in The Mammoth Hunters, and the fourth was... I remember it being a lot of fun in between very very long segments of nothing?

I haven't read the books, but that's still one lovely painting!

Looking forward to the genficathon again - though not sure about signing up atm. Will have to see how I feel nearer the time!! *fingers crossed* But yay anyway!!!
