Sanctuary fic

In the store this evening, I actually thought about buying a French wine, or something a little fancier than my usual "whatever red wine is on sale when I'm in the mood for wine". In honor of Tesla, of course. *g* In the end, though, I went for my usual Yellowtail cab. I am cheap, and Tesla would NOT APPROVE.

And I wrote Sanctuary fic at [livejournal.com profile] sfaflashfic, a new Sanctuary flashfic community. Their very first challenge is "First Times", and I wrote this:

Title: An Exchange of Gifts
Word Count: 5300
Character/Pairing: Tesla + season three team; gen (well, perhaps a bit of one-sided Tesla/Magnus, but no more so than the show)
Rating: PG
Warnings: spoilers up to Trail of Blood
Summary: "We need you to make the numbers come out even," Helen said, shaking the hat at Nikola and rustling the little slips of paper inside. "So, yes, you will." (It's a holiday story. Yes, I know it's not Christmas anymore.)

Read the fic over there.

I don't know what's gotten into me, either. *g* I don't really see Sanctuary becoming a big fandom for me, but I'm enjoying it a lot, and now I'm going back to fill in the gaps of my first, Tesla-centric pass through. (I ... might even get around to watching the rest of season one at some point, but I think I'm cherry-picking the better episodes first. I don't usually watch shows this way ... although, having said that, now I'm thinking of all the various times that I have, though usually it was because of catching random episodes on TV prior to downloads, Hulu and Netflix. These days, it's much easier to watch a show straight through from the beginning.)

I'm always surprised what fandoms pop out at me. Some I just watch for fun, but there are those few that I just have so many ideas that I want and explored and never happen on the show. Of course there are those that I just read fanfiction and not write it, and that usually leads me to being annoyed about not finding the type of fics I like (h/c, gen, friendship) so I write them instead. :-)

Yeah, I did take a peek at the show but for me it was so blah.

Heh, some shows just do that do you. You may get hooked on a particular idea, plot line, or character, and even if the show sucked, these would keep you watching. Something similar happened to me with Mutant X. Not the best show in the world, but as you said, it was something fun and I was heavily invested in one of the characters so I kept watching. By season two the show rocked, then season 3 happened and well, going down in flames is a pretty apt description of what happened.

Heh, never say never when it comes to getting into a new show and its fandom ;) They're sneaky, those shows and fandoms.
