The eps leading up to this one were fairly slow and episodic, but that one blew them out of the water. *squeaks* That's an awesome reveal, and I totally did not see it coming.
(also it was vaguely foreshadowed, way back in 1st season at the fire temple, Roku helps Zuko as well as Aang...)
OH RIGHT! Gonna have to go back and watch that again! (What a hardship ...)
I guess this means Azula is also Roku's great-granddaughter, though she seems to have gotten none of Zuko's conflicted wannabe-goodguy-ness.
I love how the show explicitly states that you can be who you choose to be (which is also evident in Souzin(sp?) and Roku's story). Meep! I want more, but we have company of the not-Avatar-addicted variety, so we're watching a movie tonight instead. *jitters*
*laughs* A revelation that shocking deserves an exclamation that's worthy of it!
I adore the animals in this show. They're so wonderful and creative! And I loved that one bit in Ba Sing Se when they were so confused by the idea of just a regular bear, not a bear-something-else. *g*
It took me ages to appreciate to Sokka. At the start he seemed to be the idiot/comic relief character that just sets my teeth on edge (especially when he flailed). And of course the obligatory cute cartoon animal, in this Momo, simply annoys me.
I actually started watching the first series and stopped because of Sokka being an idiot and the Momo antics. But friends waxed lyrical about the series, so I gave it another try. I watched the last three ever episodes on a Nick Marathon *g* then went back and sort of watched the series from the beginning, in fits and starts when I found mini marathons. I have to watch this series again properly, because the character development of the main characters was excellent.
Zukko's arc was brilliant. I won't go into details because you're not finished. I loved his relationship with Iroh.
I'm really loving it, and I'm glad I got to watch it through from the beginning, and more or less uninterrupted. The plotting is really tight!
I actually really enjoy the way that the series combines funny/silly/cute elements with the fantastic and epic, but it does feel a whole lot more little-kiddish in the beginning. And I keep noticing the obvious control that Nickelodeon exerted over the more violent aspects of the series; it's actually a really wonderful case study in how much you can get away with, in terms of adult and violent content, when you have to work within these really tight restrictions in what you can show onscreen.
At least so far, I'm totally in the dark about where this is going, and don't know a thing about the finale -- and I like it that way; though I'm looking forward to being able to discuss the whole thing with people who've seen it, without worrying about getting spoiled!
*bounces* I'm torn between "oh boy, MORE AVATAR!" and "oh no, I'm almost to the end!" But at the rate we're going, I should be able to discuss it with you guys sooooon ... (Up to 3x08, and marching on! Except my husband's family is visiting, so I guess we ought to be social rather than holing up in our geek-cave watching cartoons. *drags self away*)

At least from what I've seen, there's actually not much Zuko/Aang slash. Zuko/Sokka, on the other hand...
