Random SGA geekstuff
Still in Newfoundland. Yay for hotel room internet! And vacations! Note my random, time-wasting surfing here...
The ratings are up on the SGA and SG-1 finales! WAY up! *crosses fingers* If we get good numbers on the first few episodes of the next season -- and I think there's a good shot of it, with the premiere being at the "traditional" premiere time of year, plus crossover fans from SG-1 -- then I think we may have a good chance of getting a season 5. Squee!
I know I'm supposed to be staying away from Mallozzi's blog to avoid season 4 spoilers, but I am weak, weak! And he posts the coolest stuff, like this: the production layouts for Sheppard's quarters and McKay's quarters. Hee! There are some interesting tidbits in the notes on set props, particularly the cat picture, since people have speculated ever since we saw the picture in Duet on whether or not it's Rodney's cat -- according to the notes, yes, it is. (Somebody commented to ask why the cat in the picture in Duet looks like a different cat than the one in Rising; Mallozzi's answer: "He dyed it." More serious answer: he's had more than one cat. Most likely answer: the set people stuck a random cat picture in there and had no idea that fans would actually compare the two cats. *g*) And he's got the turtles from Return -- of course he does!
On a non-SGA note, I've finally been seductively sucked in by all the Dr. Who related squee that's been exploding all over LJ lately, and I think I'm going to start watching the series when I get home, in between Traders. Actually, as heavy as Traders often is, a little BBC sci-fi might make a nice chaser.

Seriously, have none of these guys ever watched Galaxy Quest? Do they really not understand how anal retentive sci fi fans are? LOL
I hope you continue to enjoy your vacation. :)

It does make me giggle that they remembered about the wee turtles -- though I suppose it's kind of sad, too.

Just wanted to say that I really, really hope SGA gets a fifth season, because if not, the stupidity of TPTB knows no bounds. And also, I will be sad. I mean - they can't cancel it now that I've finally started watching! So. Crossing my fingers over here!
(What's the title of the pilot - is that Rising? Because Rodney's cat there really was quite adorable.)
...oh, okay, and I can't resist one final little yay at soon having you among the Who-watchers!

Yes, the pilot is Rising -- and sometimes it disturbs me to no end that I'm actually fannish enough about this show to quote episode titles and to do it automatically ...
And I'm quite looking forward to watching Dr. Who, from everything I've heard!

I love Eureka and think it is a great little show, but I do sort of hope that it suffers a bit of slump in the ratings as well. That - as much as improving the ratings for Atlantis might help get us a season five...

WEE BABY TURTLES!
*ahem*
One of these days they're going to stop being surprised at how detail-obsessed fans are, right?
Enjoy Dr. Who. I grew up with old school Who and just started watching the new series a little bit ago. It's fun. (and I really need to track down Traders - how'd you find it?)

I bought the first season off Amazon.com -- you might need to get it from a reseller or from Amazon.ca, but it's available. As for the rest of the seasons, which aren't available on DVD yet, I found a nice person willing to make copies for me. ^_^ I haven't seen them yet, though, as this was just before I left for Newfoundland.

I love attention to detail. ^_^

I was a fan of the old series as a kid and I love the new series too. I suppose you should start with the Eccleston episodes which are very good - but it's just gotten better and better. I much, much prefer the new Doctor (David Tennant) and his newest companion (Martha - played by Freema Agyeman) but a) that's my personal preference and b) you probably should "work up" to that point in the show.
Not that Eccleston and Billie Piper aren't very good. They are excellent!
But yeah, go watch Doctor Who!
And "Traders" is cool too, isn't it?
And I love the comment about the dyed cat.

Traders is a much more interesting show than I was expecting from the premise! The characters are an odd bunch and Hewlett is, of course, adorable!

Anyway, good news about the ratings. Hope you like DW.

Now, do we get to see Rodney teaching Ronon the intricate art of barbecuing... with 'help' from John!!

Been avoiding all recent SGA news like the plague. LOL!! Me, the spoiler queen! I'll see little tidbits like this, but I'm not out hunting like I used to. Dyed the cat...LOL!! Man.

I've been trying to avoid spoilers, with dubious success. I'm much happier if I watch without them; it's just hard to avoid them sometimes (mostly because I am weak, weak, weak).

You know, I can see McKay doing something like that. I get the feeling he is an animal lover of sorts. The cat(s), Sam the whale and now the turtles.
And moreover it would be a nice visual tie to Carson.
