I have a present for penguin!fic fans
(All, um, none? of you on my friend list? But seriously, this is cute.)
Okay ... somehow, I have actually managed to make it through two years in this fandom without reading penguin!fic. Until tonight. Because one such story was rec'd on
sgastoryfinders, and it was by an author I like, and I was all, "Oh hell," and clicked on it, and it was so freakin' cute, and there goes my penguin-free streak in fandom. So, if you're a John/Rodney pairing person, and you haven't read
lavvyan's Antarctic Drift, go forth and read. SO. DAMN. CUTE.
And this got me to scan in a photo from a recent issue of National Geographic. I swear to God I have not tampered with this photo in any way. This is EXACTLY how it ran in the August 2007 issue of National Geographic.

Yes, you read that right. Rodney the emperor penguin.
And I can actually SEE the scene, with Rodney!penguin all tranquilized and limp, and the hapless biologist trying to radio-collar him while furious John!penguin attacks his ankles with his useless penguin beak. And of course, Rodney thinks the radio collar is really cool, and tries to figure out how it works, and John's all bristling and glowering at human photographers taking pictures of them from the other side of the ice floe ....

Penguin!fic!?
This fandom...this...there are no words.
(The fic was too cute, though, and the National Geo scan is hysterical, as is your imagined scenario XD)

I think SGA fandom has totally recalibrated my crack threshhold. I remember that one of the very first SGA stories that I read was a gen one in which John accidentally got turned into a dog by an Ancient device, and it completely weirded me out. Now? I don't think I'd give it a second glance. *g*

You know, I still haven't read penguin!fic but that is fantastic and hilarious and now I want to read that scene so bad. Oh, silly penguins. (and OF COURSE Rodney would think the collar was really cool and John would attack the humans and...AW)

Also, SGA is by far the crackiest fandom ever.

If you don't write this, the fandom will suffer a great loss. ^_^

I have a weak spot for penguins - a couple friends of mine do research down in Antartica (global-warming related) and have lots of fun penguin stories. Apparently the penguins are prety fearless around humans unless you start messing with the eggs or chicks - then they get very protective - someone in the group was checking egg health and looked like an IV drug user from all the bruises and pecking...

That's really cool. I'd love to go to Antarctica sometime. (No, really, I would!)

(I've worked with NG photogs before; they're a geeky lot.)

I've read all Penguin!fic....yes its become an addiction. It seems that there isn't anything SGA related that I won't read.

I think Rodney would be a proud penguin and haha, penguin angst indeed. :)
