Highlander 5x01-5x04 (random comments)
Despite sound-sync issues, somehow I've managed to watch four episodes anyway. I GOT IT BAD, YOU GUYS.
So. These episodes! OH JOE. OH DUNCAN. OH EVERYBODY. :D
There aren't really words for how much it delights me that Joe and Duncan have managed to patch things up and work their way back around to an easy rapport again. I love those two so much. And I love that they have the kind of friendship that is able to weather some incredibly serious blows and still come out strong in the end. The bit at the end of 5x04 with the football made me grin so hard. Actually a lot of their scenes in the past few episodes put a huge grin on my face. "That's the hell of it ... weighing ethics and honor against a friend's life." Ohhhhhh, show.
Richie, wow. Again, I love that the show doesn't make things easy. We've been watching him grow up, and that doesn't always involve becoming a kinder and better person. He's still a fundamentally decent kid, just -- troubled and angry, and the show is willing to go there with it, and show him doing things that are unpleasant and unkind and, in the case of picking a fight with and killing an Immortal who doesn't mean him any harm, downright cruel. But ... it feels very real, and again, there are consequences for everything. The characters never get through anything unscathed or unchanged.
What else from these eps? Hmmm ... it was nice to have Carl's story revisited, and also, OMG WEE DUNCAN IS VERY CUTE. (Um, adult Duncan is very cute too. In so many ways. I don't think there's an episode yet where snarky!Duncan hasn't made me laugh.) Oh, and Cassandra! Okay, I kinda knew about her, in the sense that I knew there would be a character called Cassandra and she has some connection or other to Methos? At least now I've seen her, eh? And I presume we'll see her again.
That's about it, really. Having just watched 5x04, right now I'm all flaily with love for Joe and Duncan, and so very relieved that they've managed to find their way back to what they had before. SHOWWWWWWWW!
