There can be only one!
So, I'm up to Highlander 1x18 (... I think?) and, aside from a certain amount of giggling at the cheese (HAHAHA KILLER MIMES WTF), my reaction basically consists of wanting to draw little hearts around all the characters. Especially ♥ ♥ ♥ Duncan ♥ ♥ ♥. (See?)
I JUST LOVE EVERYBODY. Particularly Duncan, who really could not be more adorable. I love his snarkasm and his little grins; he just seems kind of adorably bemused at the fact that he lives in a world of brooding crazy people with swords who all want to kill him. And yet, so badass. I also like the clothes he wears. Actually, I kind of just enjoy staring at him a lot. :D :D
And TESSA! I love her so much! I'm trying not to get too attached -- as noted in my last Highlander post, I rather suspect she doesn't survive the show; NO SPOILERS THOUGH, GUYS, I MEAN IT -- but she's so awesome and so adorable with Duncan. I love how she's got her own life and her own career, and they even show it -- rather than just telling us that she's an artist, we always see her sketching and sculpting and having shows, and they even moved to another continent for her career! ♥ (And now Duncan is a kept man. And is totally fine with it. Awwww. ♥)
Richie and Darius sort of stole my heart slowly, rather than making me squee and flail immediately like Duncan and Tessa. Also, I'm kind of aware that getting too attached to Darius is probably not a good idea. But awww, Duncan and his little mortal family, and all his friends ...! They're good at making me like people on this show. Also, I quite enjoy their casting department's fondness for tall, dark guys with high cheekbones. *g*
And considering that the show was made in 1992, I think it's kind of awesome how up-to-date their technology is! They have cell phones! And laptops! And Internet! I thought I remembered TV taking a lot longer than this to catch onto the world's changing technology. *pats show*
Once again, no major spoilers, please! Sadly I will be running off to the Internetless (and Netflix-less) wilds of Alaska tomorrow, so no more Highlander for a week and a half. *is sad*

I've seen quite a few Highlander clips in vids, as it's a popular one for sticking into multifandom vids, but I have no idea where the clips go chronologically - lots and lots and LOTS of swordfighting, Methos with blue face paint, etc. But I don't know the how or the why of it. I keep running into scenes and going, "Oh, hey, I saw that in a vid once! *That's* what was happening in that scene!" It's fun, and really, I'd rather have the enjoyment of discovering it for myself rather than having someone tell me that the blue face paint is because Methos was the Crazed Horseman of Blah Blah in 1237 and we find that out in a flashback in episode 3x17. That's exactly the kind of thing I DON'T want to know. :D
Basically ... I'm a really hardcore spoilerphobe. I'm kind of fanatic about keeping myself unspoiled for whatever I'm currently watching. I mean, I am not going to scream at people for accidentally spoiling me (at least, I hope not), because mistakes will always happen, but with me, it's generally safer to assume that ANYTHING in advance of where I currently am in the series is something I'd rather not know. Even little stuff. For example, someone on the LJ side mentioned something about Methos in the post-series movies, and I really wish I didn't know that, because now I know that he survives the whole series! (Okay, so there's another thing I know, I guess. *g* But please do not confirm or deny.) And someone else said in a comment to my first Highlander post that she hated Amanda, so, well, I just saw the first episode with Amanda in it, and I really liked her! But I kinda wished that I hadn't known that at least some of the fandom hates her. I just enjoy it more when I don't have to struggle with other people's opinions on the show, or with my own preconceived notions of what it's going to be like if I spend several seasons anticipating a canon event. I would much rather be surprised.
... er, long answer to short question, I guess. *g* Much shorter version of all that tl;dr: please err on the side of not spoiling me, if possible, even for little things!

The reason I asked was to gauge whether it would be safe to discuss themes and characterisation. There's a great post about masculinity that I almost linked to, which doesn't discuss HL at all, but which would probably tell you too much about Duncan. (I'll save the link for later. *g*)
I used to be a lot better about warning for spoilers, but I've gotten pretty lax with shows that have been around the block. Now that you've proved it's possible to discover HL as a total newbie, I'm going to try harder! Somewhere out there is a future Buffy/HL/Stargate fangirl who doesn't yet know about [insert canonical WTFery]!

I may be a hardcore spoilerphobe, but I'm a fairly realistic one, I guess. :D I used to struggle with "how much is too much" in Stargate and even more so in A:TLA, where there are SO MANY changes during the series that it's virtually impossible to even write a summary for a post-canon fic that doesn't spoil major things like who ends up together with whom or the outcome of the show's big battles. Obviously it's a little silly to bend over backwards trying to talk around a Big Canon Spoiler when you're in a fannish space where 99% of the people around you have seen the canon and know the spoiler. And, really, I've accepted the fact that just being in fandom means that I run the risk of learning some of the "biggie" spoilers, the ones everyone talks about and uses as examples in meta. I've read a ton of spoilers for BSG and Farscape, for example, despite having seen very little of either show. It might make my viewing experience less fun if I ever do watch them, but it's the price you gotta pay to read multifannish meta.
I think you're most "vulnerable" to spoilers, so to speak, when you first start out watching something new, because suddenly you're noticing people talking about it, and remembering what you read. And that's when I start trying to pull in my feelers and stop clicking on those tasty, tasty links. :D So, yeah, I'd really rather wait 'til I'm farther along before getting to the thematic and character-arc stuff (for one thing, I haven't really seen enough of the series yet to be able to discuss it intelligently anyway). But I will definitely want that link when I've seen more of the series. :)

I hope you keep posting as you watch - it's such fun to revisit the show through your eyes. :D
