Ooh, foreshadowy!

I just realized something about Avatar ... In Zuko's dream sequence back in season two, where he wakes up with the Avatar tattoos -- that was foreshadowing of his connection to the Avatar, wasn't it?

That is so cool, because I had just dismissed it at the time as a fake-out and a fairly believable nightmare for him to have (Zuko's worst nightmare? Waking up as Aang!), but his other dreams had various significance, and this one does too ...

This show is so marvelously put together!

It's one of the joys of rewatching the whole thing again (neechan and I did just that last fall when we marathoned showing it to my mom in like a week). You pick up sooo many things that were foreshadowed and obviously planned and its just all kinds of AWESOME!

I am so impressed at how well put together this show is! I know from writing complicated stories myself that a lot of the details are probably being invented on the fly -- it's surprising how often you're just writing along and suddenly realize that if you have [x] and [y] be half siblings, or reveal that the hiding place of the Holy Grail of Thingamabob is in the cellar, that this other thing you wrote 12 chapters ago will make it look like you totally meant it all along. *g* Still, being able to maintain it over the long haul, especially under the pressures of TV writing and the special pressures of trying to conform to ridiculous American-TV standards for acceptable content in kids' programming, is impressive -- I've seen anime and British TV this tightly plotted, but not very much of it, and it's almost unheard-of over here!

Nothing is insignificant! I love this show. I'm also amazed at how fast you're getting through it - how many episodes do you watch? XD

*laughs* It's ... pretty sad, actually; we seem to be averaging 7-8 episodes a day. We've been busy all day today and haven't watched any, but at the rate we're going, we probably only have 2-3 more days to go -- 3-4 days if we manage to learn some self-restraint ... and tomorrow is my birthday, which means NOT DAMN LIKELY; if there is anything that sounds more fun for my birthday than mainlining cartoons, I can't imagine what it could be!

There's actually foreshadowing even further back.

Season One: Avatar Roku.

In the entire episode, there are two Fire Nation people not on Avatar Roku's personal naughty list. Shyu, for rather obvious reasons, and Zuko.

Zuko, who would have ended up imprisoned or worse if Roku hadn't included him in the chain-melting attack. There was no one else chained to that pillar. Sokka and Katara could have both gotten away if Roku hadn't paid a bit of attention to Zuko's presence.

(And, technically, Zuko's name is foreshadowing....)
