Sometimes I'm slow

So we just watched Revenge of the Sith, finally. (Yes, it took five years.)

And OMG STILL LAUGHING. *expires on keyboard* I really don't think that was the reaction Lucas was going for with his big tragic finale.

[identity profile] crashbarrier.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
all i can say is *NOOOOOOOOOOO!*.....

yes .. I would say it was a bit of a tragedy, just not quite the dramatic tragedy that Lucas was going for.

Which is why he should think up the story and hand it off to others to write the script and do all the practical filmy stuff with it.. :D..

*NOOOOOOOOOOO!*

Poor woobie Vader ... I LAUGH AT HIS PAIN.

yeahhhhh ... We had two competing theories, while we were watching, for how this screenplay came about -- either it must have been written by a 17-year-old Lucas, or they found a fanboy-written script on the Internet and decided to steal it. XD (But the last one probably isn't true, because it would have been much better!)

I love the scene with obi-wan v Annakin Vader...

"You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!"

Lets see.. two jedi... two sith.. seems quite balanced to me:D:D:D:D such a deliciously bad script..

HAW I know, right?

The NOOOOO wasn't quite as funny to me as the "Anakin, you're breaking my heart!" which had me LOLing in the theater...

Obi-wan's exchange with Anakin near the start of the movie ("We're smarter than this!" "No, I guess we're not.") had me go off posthaste to get a glass of wine, and I didn't regret it. Being slightly drunk makes the movie tolerable, at least.

... seriously, if your script is so awful that even Samuel L. Jackson can't make his lines sound convincing, you know you've got a bad problem ...

Alcohol! I knew I was forgetting something! There is a major downside to not being a drinker...

I still love the original trilogy (recently rewatched it, and yeah, it's dated, but it's still Star Wars!) but the prequels really are an exercise in How Not To Write a Screenplay.

"We're smarter than this!" "No, I guess we're not."
I think that sums up the entire movie!

OH MY GOD ROFL

"Must… bridge… gap… to… original… trilogy…"

I don't even remember if I saw this movie (seriously) but the abridged script is hilarious! Thanks.

To be fair, the scenes with the stormtroopers gunning down all the Jedi who were relying on them were really atmospheric and sad.

...it was just a shame about the other 99% of the film...

Have you ever read the 'Darths and Droids' webcomic?

I endorse this warning.

I was only trying to prevent the loss of countless hours spent staring at the screen thinking "it makes much more sense this way!" Just being helpful in a more general sense.

... Guess what I've spent most of today doing. *g* At least when I wasn't working on my paper, but really, reading Boas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Boas) or reading Star Wars parody ... it's not much of a contest. XD

Yeah, hubby and I couldn't help laughing at how some of them were so obviously phoning it in, wandering around with a "how did I end up in this movie anyway?" sort of look on their face.

I kept on getting bored and walking away from the screen (didn't see it in the movies).

It's not exactly cinematic brilliance, is it?

I had my laptop open and managed to get some of my linguistics reading done during the movie, which is a pretty sad commentary on how engrossing it was. On the other hand, it's a great one for the MST3K treatment ...

I had a friend with a Padme icon from Revenge, with her hand over her face, looking like she was crying.

"My lines are so bad! Why are my lines so bad?"

[identity profile] argosy.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
heh heh--it took me until about three months ago to finally watch it myself. :D Although truthfully I wasn't paying all that much attention so I still probably missed a lot. :D
ext_1981: (Meredith Jeannie)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. There's not really a lot to miss, trust me! :D

... and you know, your icon reminds me of another of the (many) problems that I had with the movie while I was watching it -- there are NO women in the movie with speaking parts other than Padme, and her sole role is to stand around flailing helplessly and then die. (At least in the previous movies, while not exactly my favorite character, she DID stuff! She was a queen! A senator! She kicked ass with a blaster! And then she got pregnant and suddenly was incapable of doing anything other than drifting around her penthouse apartment worrying about Anakin.) And I think the only time we even saw another woman in the movie was the blue Jedi's death scene. So there just aren't any female senators or Jedi or pilots or Sith or soldiers, I guess ...

[identity profile] less-star.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, always good to know I'm not alone! (Though I did get a little wibbly when the clones turn on the Jedi after order 66, I'm not made of stone, OK.)

[identity profile] flingslass.livejournal.com 2010-03-08 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I still haven't seen it :)

Notice I'm playing catch up with the posts? I just don't like to miss anything :D
