October, get here soon!

Am I the only one who really can't wait for Yuletide signups to open? I didn't play last year because I was traveling and already overloaded with holiday ficathon stories, and the year before (my first and only) wasn't the happiest experience ever for purely personal reasons, even though I could not have been happier with both the story(s) I got (actually, I'm *still* in rapture over getting 15K words of Hellburner gen; I am the luckiest Yule person ever) and with my recipient's reaction.

But this year, even though I'm crazy busy and should probably be shedding responsibilities rather than taking more on, I really cannot WAIT. I'm already pondering which fandoms to request.

I *TOTALLY* can't wait. I was explaining Yuletide to a geeky but non-fannish friend of mine the other day (she was very impressed with all the little details that make it work well, like Top Commenters getting an extra request) and it just made me so, so excited for it.

I've actually found myself pointing a couple of non-fannish people to the Yuletide archive in the last couple of years; the fic is fairly consistently of high quality, bite-size, and represents a lot of rare and unique interests that makes it very good for getting people past their preconceived notions about what fanfic is. I am so glad it exists! And I want it nowwwww. *goes off to look at New Years fic prompts*

I posted without reading the comments and then realized [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn had made this icon. Isn't it lovely? All the icons ze made for Yuletide are fabulous.

I haven't done it for about 3 years, but I'm planning to sign up this year -- I've missed not playing. My inspiration is very spotty at the minute, but I could do *one* ficathon, I think. And this year I have a couple of genuinely small fandoms I'd love to read or write fic for (Sarah Connor Chronicles and Fringe).

Whee!

I think that if you can only do one, Yuletide's probably the one to do ... it's very tightly run (you're guaranteed to get something back), there's such wonderful energy with so many people gearing up for the big reveal of the fic, and it's so lovely to get fic in a microfandom where you might have searched for years and only turned up one or two before.

I haven't decided yet if I'm feeling up to signing up for any of the SGA ones (though at least I have some time to think about it). My writing mojo's been rock bottom -- you saw how I did with the cliche_bingo -- and I'm still signed up to do art for Big Bang, as well as having a crazy-busy few months ahead of me in RL. But I've been doing at least one SGA holiday exchange ever since I've been in the fandom; the idea of not doing any is weird and a little bit sad ...

OMG YES. All year long, I've been marking down fandoms and reminding myself that I want to request or nominate them this year. I've been doing Yuletide for 3 years and have consistently been enjoying myself more and more each year -- like, honestly, I'm afraid this year won't be able to top that. But that's what I thought last year too.

Hee! I'm so excited about doing it again! I just have to narrow down the list of fandoms that I want to request.

yaaaaaaaay yuletide! oh my goodness, the best is Yuletide Madness Day, running around in the prompts list and making little tiny fics for people. I don't want it to be winter (blech) but I do VERY much want it to be yuletide season. :D

*nodnod* I'm so with you -- I don't think I'm ready for winter AT ALL (dark and cold and long and WAAAAHHHH) but I want Yuletide to be here! What is a fangirl to do?

Sounds interesting, do you have a link to check it out?

It's a small-fandom holiday fic exchange; the main archive is at yuletidetreasure.org (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org), and they have LJ's [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and [livejournal.com profile] yuletide_admin. The page with the list of (and links to) fic in different fandoms from past years is here (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/quicksearch.html); it's a great go-to for finding fic to read in really rare and obscure fandoms, too!

Get out of my head!!!! I was just thinking about that last night! Even though i'm in the middle of SGA Big Bang hell at the moment i cannot wait for the Secret Santa challenge!

It's so much fun to do those things!

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to do any of the other fic exchanges other than Yuletide. I don't want to overload myself and I've got a very busy semester ahead of me.
