A couple more "McKay & Mrs. Miller" comments

You know, contrary to what I said in my last post, I *did* actually do an episode reaction post for "Common Ground". Why don't I remember doing that? I guess this is what happens when two weeks go by between episodes...

Anyway -- a couple more things about "McKay & Mrs. Miller" that I forgot to mention in my last post. One thing is that the Carter & McKay interaction in this episode seemed a little more relaxed and friendly than in "Pegasus Project" -- more like the playful, semi-affectionate tone of the latter half of "Redemption" or in "Grace Under Pressure". I especially liked the bit where she put her hand on his shoulder after teasing him about being called Meredith -- it seemed very much the sort of thing a friend would do. The "cute Canadian way of saying sorry" scene was also adorable as all hell. It was funny, too, how the condescention in this episode was basically reversed from "Pegasus Project" -- over there, you had the SG1 people picking on McKay, and here, he was hella condescending to Carter; she must've had the patience of a saint not to smack him for some of the things he said to her. *grin*

The other thing is that once again, those pesky Stargate writers have used one of my fanfic ideas -- I had a half-finished one that dealt with the idea of the SGA team ending up with a "perfect" version of Rodney and trying to get the imperfect one back. Aargh!

Don't you hate it when the writers do that?

Are you still going to finish the fic and post it?

Probably. It's a relatively short one (short for me, anyway) and most of the hard parts are done -- it's just a matter of writing the bridging scenes between the "good" parts.

Of all the plot ideas that they could have used, I must say that I was overjoyed to see that one actually done, and done well, on the show! It was worse when they took another idea I'd been planning to use and made a sort of mediocre episode out of it. (Still planning on finishing that one, too.)

I've also realized that I need to go back through the Jeannie scenes in "Killing Frost" and edit them a bit. You know, I had tried SO hard when I wrote those scenes, knowing that a Jeannie episode was coming up, to be completely nonspecific about all the details like whether she was younger or older, where they'd lived as kids, what their parents were like, etc. -- hoping not to be "jossed" when the episode aired. And then the one thing that tripped me up was the one that would never in a million years have occurred to me: that "Rodney" is not what his sister calls him!

Hee! Whilst I know that eventually getting Daniel to Atlantis has been done a number of times, I was writing one where he had got so excited about it that he stayed up the night before, fell asleep at the most inopportune time and woke up kicking himself. Sound at all familiar?

LOL! Great minds do think alike, I'm sure!

And really, there are only so many plots, and only so many clever little ideas that work for the characters. I've seen fanfics that were very similar yet I *know* were written independently. It's not surprising that the canon writers would cover similar ground to the 'fic writers.

I always thought that Jeannie would have some nickname for Rodney that no one else did - but I was thinking it would have be some sort of verison of Rodney...Rod, Roddy or something like that. I never thought he would have another name...

*smile* Nice to know it's not just me! And the more I mull over the events of the episode, the more I love it. I don't know if I can say that I have a single favorite episode in this series; there are just too many of them. But as far as a #1 warm fuzzy episode, I think this one surely qualifies.
