A very small find from Biggles in the Blue

I never really noticed this before, and it's interesting to me. This is Bertie and Ginger talking about newly arrived reinforcements:

‘Don’t tell me they are pals of von Stalhein,’ said Bertie, in a startled voice.

‘They’re more likely to be pals of Zorotov.’

‘D’you know, old boy, I believe you’re right,’ returned Bertie slowly.

I think it's interesting that even Biggles's friends (at least some of the time) draw a distinction between Erich and the people he's working with.

It’s hard to tell with the books whether or not WEJ really planned Erich’s arc in advance, but this sort of thing makes me think maybe he did <3

I think by In the Blue he must have decided to keep EvS around for the long haul even if he may or may not have made plans for the HEA :D The characterization arc is so consistent after WW2 and surprisingly layered for the fact we're never in Erich's head but can tell what's going on with him anyway!
